Position Description 

 

Title:   Director of Innovation and Science                 

 

Department: Research and Development

 

Reports to:   Vice President Innovation and Science

 

Supervision of Others:     Directly: None

                                                Indirectly: Scientists, Research Assistants

 

Position Overview:            Works within a cross-functional team as a nutritional science expert developing competitive advantage for current and future Schiff brands/categories. The Director of Innovation and Science is the lead resource on the exploration and identification of state of the art scientific insights and potential future trends. This includes assessments of consumer relevance and perceivable benefit for credible new product opportunities.

Success Factors:  

  1. Drive identification and development of new meaningful and differentiated scientific and consumer insights.
  2. Provides expert assessment and proposal of likely benefits from new ingredients and formulations.
  3. Provides expert assessments on scientific opportunities within and beyond the current category scope.
  4. Establishes working contacts with both internal and external experts/KOL’s
  5. Provides scientific input and involvement in potential new clinical research.
  6. Contributes to production of scientific information required for the development of position papers and responses to press releases.
  7. Produces scientific content for claims support, Schiff websites, and media.
  8. Produces substantiation during the development of new claims and evaluates and updates existing claims substantiation. 

 

Knowledge and Skills:     

·         Extensive background knowledge in the areas of food science, nutrition, life sciences.

·         Experience and skills in identifying and analyzing in vitro, animal and human studies.

·         Fluency in basic computer programs.

·         Detail oriented, organized and a self starter.

·         Track record of business development and commercial understanding.

·         Track record of producing new products, innovations and technologies. 

·         Ability to present scientific results (both verbal and non-verbal) to a non-science audience.

 

Education and Work Experience:         

·         Education:  PhD in natural sciences (nutrition, pharmacy, chemistry, biology, medicine, etc) or combination of MS in natural sciences and appropriate level of experience.

·         Experience:  8+ years experience in science related field generating new products, innovations and scientific/consumer insights.

·         Competencies: team player, creative, open minded, verbal and written communication, leadership, influence
