SCOPE OF POSITION:
This position reports to the Director of Food Safety and assists with development, implementation, and continuous improvement of Pinnacle Foods’ food safety programs. The position utilizes personal expertise in food safety, microbiology, and good sanitation and hygiene practices to provide strategic leadership and technical assistance to supply chain manufacturing, and to communicate with and advise senior management.

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Assist with development, review, approval, and implementation of all PFG food safety, microbiology, and sanitation and hygiene policies, procedures, specifications, and testing programs
• Provide food safety risk assessment information, new technology information, and risk management strategies in support of new product development and commercialization
• Develop and conduct Food Safety, Microbiology, and Sanitation and Hygiene trainings
• Stay current with pertinent scientific literature and emerging technologies, and make recommendations for the establishment of new methods to detect, enumerate, and identify microorganisms of concern
• Proactively identify potential and emerging food safety issues and develop strategies to effectively investigate and respond
• Develop, schedule, and carry out internal GMP, Food Safety, and Quality Management System audits and monitor corrective actions to deficient findings for completion and effectiveness, providing gap closure assistance to the manufacturing plants
• Conduct food safety assessments and validations of product designs, manufacturing processes, HACCP/Food Safety plans, environmental microbiological monitoring and control programs, finished product microbiological testing programs, and sanitation and hygiene programs
• Plan and conduct special projects as requested by the Director of Food Safety
• Travel  60 +%

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

• Extensive technical knowledge and experience in food microbiology, food safety, sanitation systems, and best industry sanitation and hygiene practices
• Strong interpersonal communication skills with a demonstrated ability to effectively work cross-functionally at all managerial levels, and with external contacts
• Ability to collect and analyze data using statistical methodologies
• Experienced in preparing reports and presenting technical, scientific data to a variety of audiences
• Strong analytical problem solving skills with the ability to effectively collaborate and use creative and innovative approaches to resolve complex problems
• Team building/team leadership skills
• HACCP certified and experienced
• Formal audit training or equivalent certification or experience

 

EDUCATION:
Master degree or above in microbiology or related field with major study emphasis in microbiological sciences

 

EXPERIENCE:
• Minimum of 10 years industry experience in food processing microbiology and good sanitation and hygiene practices
• Minimum of 5 years in-plant Food Safety/QA, and Sanitation experience
• FDA and USDA experience
