Job Description
Summary
Administer and maintain food safety management programs that ensure the production of high quality and specification-compliant foods (including ready-to-eat and various food processing technologies). Evaluate new and existing co-manufacturers and suppliers for compliance to company quality and food safety standards. Drive process improvement through tracking of food safety metrics and preventive/corrective action plans. Collaborate with supply chain partners to drive successful innovation strategies.

 

Primary Responsibilities
1. Develop, modify, and facilitate food safety policies and programs for manufacturing operations. Monitor and support food safety programs. Oversight of development, revision and implementation of HACCP programs. Ensure self-monitoring and audit systems are utilized. Provide guidance for GFSI system implementation, compliance, and continuous improvement.
2. Ensure regulatory compliance and improvement at facilities and assist with training and implementing food safety regulatory standards.
3. Assess co-manufacturers and suppliers for compliance with company standards. Screen, audit and qualify food safety & quality systems and monitor supplier performance. Ensure compliance with company standards as well as corrective action and improvement plan completion.
4.Track food safety metrics to drive improvement and business growth.
5. Contribute to business success by connecting food safety goals directly to the business through collaboration with the business management, innovations, manufacturing and supply chain teams.
6. Collaborate with all supply chain partners to drive successful product development and innovation. Implement food safety policies and quality programs as needed.

 

Education
B.S. in Microbiology or Food Science, M.S. or PhD preferred. Knowledge of Molecular Biology also preferred.

 

Experience
2-5 years food processing experience in Quality Assurance or Food Safety.
Experience in food manufacturing and distribution.

 

Special skills and abilities
o Working knowledge of food safety systems including HACCP (including pre-requisites) and GFSI
o Experience with North America Food regulations
o Working knowledge of, and experience in, applying Statistical Process Control
o Exposure to various food processing technologies
o Excellent written and verbal skills
o Process improvement and problem-solving skills
o Proven analytical skills resulting in effective decision-making that protects the customer, consumer and brand
o Strong organizational skills and the ability to set and achieve goals
o Proactive and flexible to anticipate business needs. Ability to prioritize duties in a changing environment and still meet business objectives.
o Ability to influence change in areas where there are not direct reporting relationships
o Strong computer skills including database development and proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, Powerpoint and Access
o Bilingual English/Spanish or other languages a plus.
Travel - 25%, domestic and international. Must be able to travel throughout the year
