Quality Assurance Technician (Food Science)

Work closely with the Director of QA  to assemble written materials that meet the requirements of the BRC Audit.  The candidate will be reading procedures, verifying and discussing the validity with the subject matter expert.  May change  procedures as necessary.  Will apply knowledge of Good Manufacturing Practices and Global Food Manufacturing procedures to the documentation.

Responsible:
We will provide the Global Standards.  The person will have to read the standards and apply to the company’s procedures.

This person will be reviewing the audits and filing the audits to present to the BRC staff.

This person will tour the plant and verify flowcharts.  Most of the time will be spent writing and asking questions to verify procedures.

This person will be trained on safety procedures.

Must have transportation to be able to visit multiple local Plants. 

Must be able to read and interpret technical information.

Must have manufacturing and safety experience.
Must be able to interview and discuss procedures with other members of the team including management.

This person will be responsible for testing and inspecting products and the facility at various states of production.  Will compile and evaluate data to determine and maintain quality and reliability of products by performing the following duties:

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

 Conducts audits of plant daily to maintain compliance to USDA and company standards.
?
 Collects product samples for tests at specified stages in production process and tests products for variety of qualities.
?
 Calculates data necessary to perform daily lab functions.
?
 Performs daily microbial swab tests
? Maintains laboratory facilities.
?
 Sets up and performs tests on products to measure a variety of factors including, but not limited to:  performance, shelf life, taste, texture, fat content, moisture content, protein content.
?
 Evaluates the quality of our products against the specifications.
?
 Analyzes and Investigates why unexpected results occur and gathers data to prove hypothesis.
?
 Assesses the quality of those products and make recommendations for improvements.
?
 Assures that all GMP’s are being followed.
?
 Monitoring procedures and processes are being followed according to documented standards.
?
 Compiles records for USDA and Quality Assurance.
? Recording data in the appropriate software and/or paper records. Ensure that records are kept correctly, timely and accurately.
?
 Participates in meetings.
? Obtain an in-depth understanding of our product lines and technology.

 An understanding of the relationship between micro results and sanitation
? An understanding of formulations and USDA and processing requirements
? Investigative and analytical skills – interest and ability to find causes and solutions of results.  Ability to analyze the results of formulation and micro.

 Excellent communications skills in English - verbal and written
? Ability to communicate results from laboratory to sanitation and other key personnel including the management team.
? Must be proficient in MS Office including Word/Excel/Outlook
? Ability to learn formulation software (ROI) and BAX systems
? Ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
?
 Ability to uphold and maintain Quality Assurance, Personal Protective Equipment, and sanitary standards.
?
 Training in HACCP, GMP’s, Food and laboratory safety a plus.


 EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:
Minimum two-year degree in Food Science, Microbiology, Chemistry or related field and three-five years experience (in a USDA plant is preferred).
Computer literacy is a must.

LANGUAGE SKILLS:
Must be able to read and interpret government regulations, work related documents and work related periodicals.  Ability to write reports, correspondence and procedures.  Ability to communicate clearly with individuals and/or groups is required.
