Cargill has an exciting opportunity available for a Food Scientist or Senior Food Scientist located at our Research & Development facility in Wichita, Kansas. This position will conduct research aligned with business needs for purposes of new product development, new process development, process improvement, technical sales support, and trouble shooting. Research can include the entire process from discovery to commercialization or segments of the process.

The purpose of the position is to provide technical expertise and leadership and project leadership to:

  • New Product Development for product line growth
  • Process development for the creation of new capabilities and/or labor expense reduction efforts
  • Creation, perfection, and defense of new and existing IP
  • Involvement in strategic plan and creation of a center of excellence and collaboration
  • Provides positive mentoring and technical assistance to Jr team members through coaching



  • 25% Research and develop innovative customer focused new products, services and solutions that deliver commercially viable new products.
  • 30 Ūliver high performance innovation, supporting core and new products.
  • 30% Provide technical leadership in product and process development and regulatory oversight.
  • 10% Build business unit, CAP platform and Cargill Corporate collaboration and provide technical expertise to team members
  • 5 % Build, maintain, and defend IP portfolio



  • B.S. in food/meat Science, culinary arts, or food processing or equivalent experience .
  • Minimum 5 years experience in new product development, commercialization of new products, and/or research. or equivalent.
  • Highly motivated individual with a strong background in scientific procedure and project management skills
  • Data analysis, experimental design, and technical writing and effective vocal communication skills
  • Ability to demonstrate courtesy and effectiveness in dealing with others
  • Builds relationships with internal and external customers
  • Strong organizational skills and ability to multi task
  • Clear and effective communication, both verbal and written
  • Ability to influence outcomes with peers, customers and vendors
  • Ability to manage, lead, motivate and evaluate people
  • Self motivated with ability to work independently
  • Innovative, practical, creative, and adaptable
  • High level of proficiency using Microsoft Office
  • Ability to travel (25-40%)




  • M.S. or Ph.D.
  • Experience in retail and/or foodservice, operations, and/or management
  • Previous experience with statistical software
