Job Description


The Manager, Quality & Food Safety I, is the quality advocate for the plant, providing leadership for the quality and food safety systems and programs. Key drivers are assuring compliance to specification on incoming ingredients, in-process conditions and finished products. The incumbent assures the ongoing reduction of quality attribute variation to improve the acceptance of our products by customers and consumers. Responsible for the on-going program management and oversight on
BRC Global Standards Certification and initiatives at the Womelsdorf, PA facility. This position reports to Plant Manager.


Serves as the primary contact for all Quality, Food Safety, Kosher, Co-Manufacturing and Regulatory issues.

Develops, implements and manages the Quality and Food Safety System.

Manages and trains the activities of the staff in the Quality Department.

Develops, maintains and ensures compliance of a qualified HACCP program.

Ensures the effectiveness of the Master Sanitation and Pest Control programs for the facility and any associated food grade storage areas.

Acts as the facility R&D liaison and conducts or coordinates with divisional groups on products and test runs.

Analyzes QA data to measure, access and improve product quality performance.

Communicates compliance results to operating groups, ensures timely feedback and provides technical support to operate processes at target.

Utilizes customer and consumer complaint data to identify root cause, then communicates and provides support to implement process / product improvements.

Determines the disposition of all raw materials, packaging and finished product HOLD orders.

Develops a Quality and Product Safety System that consistently meets regulatory, customer, Kosher and third party audit requirements.

Provides support to Divisional Quality in a timely manner for sales and customer and consumer requests including documented root cause analysis and recommended corrective actions.

Informs management of any Food Safety or Quality issues or of any processes, which become noncompliant with specified requirements.

Performs all supervisory duties and responsibilities inherent to the position.

In the absence of immediate supervisor, will assume necessary operational and administrative duties.

Job Qualifications


Minimum of a BS degree in food science, business, Food Safety, Microbiology, Chemistry, or other related field.

5 plus years experience leading a Quality Assurance Department, preferably in a food processing facility.

Experience working with food safety regulations and demonstrated experience leading internal and external audit teams

Ability to multi-task, take the initiative, maintain confidentiality, meet deadlines, with superior organizational skills

Demonstrated leader with the ability to influence change

Strong interpersonal skills, professional verbal and written communication skills

PC proficiency - need to be proficient with Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel, Microsoft Powerpoint and be willing and capable of learning new software

Previous experience with Safe Quality Foods (SQF) or British Retail Consortium (BRC) is a plus.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS: Periodic lifting of up to 50 lbs, pushing and pulling on occasion. Must be able to work frequently on a PC. Requires frequent typing and the ability to view the monitor a great deal of time. May include extended periods of time on manufacturing floor standing, climbing, bending twisting and walking.
