This position is responsible for the development of new, innovative products, from concept to final productions that meet the customerís needs as well as accomplish Tyson's objective of profitable, efficient production. Activities include test kitchen development; small scale pilot plant testing, scale-up production at a USDA inspected research facility and finally involvement with full scale production at a processing plant. This involves constant interaction with customers and ingredient suppliers, as well as various departments including Production, Accounting, Sales/Marketing, and Packaging. Additional responsibilities include providing information to Cost Accounting to enable them to provide accurate pricing data, studying existing resources and processes to identify cost reductions and quality improvement opportunities, researching new protein resources that offer long-term, low price supply potential, and making periodic recommendations to management through reports, meetings, and presentations.

The Sr. Food Technologist must ensure that new products meet price targets and all quality and performance attributes required by the customer. Other duties include compiling ingredient statements and formulas for making labels and obtaining USDA approval, reviewing incoming project requests and prioritizing/assigning to appropriate technicians, and completing other special projects as needed.


REQUIREMENTS:

Education: B.S, MS, or PhD in Food Science with study emphasis in protein foods (poultry, beef, pork and fish)

Experience: Minimum 5 years research experience with Tyson or similar experience within the food industry. Research done while completing an MS or Ph.D. may count as part of this requirement

Computer Skills: Requires basic computer skills. For example, generating simple letters, spreadsheets, and creating simple queries. May require knowledge of Tyson Business Computer System.

Travel: 12 or more trips per year.
