Position Title: Sanitation Manager

Purpose of Role
The Sanitation Manager provides sanitation expertise to the entire facility. This role involves developing, managing and continuously improving a comprehensive sanitation program that encompasses associate safety, equipment, infrastructure and people development in order to ensure safe food for our consumers while ensuring Food Safety, Associate Safety & Sanitation Programs are developed, complied to and executed with excellence. They will improve efficiencies in support of plant productivity, leverage external vendors to improve sanitation effectiveness and efficiency, act as the commercialization/project liaison with Engineering responsible for sanitary design and develop functional/technical skills of sanitation team and site.

Travel requirements: 10%.

Principal Accountabilities
Create and maintain site master plan in line with Mars Petcare Corporate OGSMs.
Function as the technical liaison on the Site Safety Committee and Food Safety Teams.

Develop training plan for plant sanitation associates regarding the effective use of chemicals, COP and CIP cleaning processes, SOPís regarding chemical concentration, temperatures, and times sanitation equipment, valve function and sanitary design.
Implements effective pest control and platform regulatory compliance programs.
Sets standards for maintaining CIP equipment, developing CIP PM and Calibration programs
Manages the sanitation cycle-time reduction and initiatives, extended cleaning request validations, sanitation chemical cost reductions, sanitation assurance/effectiveness programs.
Investigate sanitation issues, which could be linked to product contamination, reduced shelf-life, or customer rejection of products.
Works with sanitation chemical service providers and others to maximize technical expertise, information, equipment, research new cleaning technologies and techniques and coordinate trials.
Design and execute sanitation verification programs to assess sanitation effectiveness
Develop, revise and maintain the plant sanitation SOPís which contains control policies, standards, and procedures.
Champion of Lean initiatives related to sanitation and involvement with 6-Sigma initiatives
Maintain controls for sanitation chemicals including cost optimization, utilization, testing, inventories, and proper labeling of containers.
Provide direction to and oversight of the Sanitation Technicians covering all 3 shifts and weekend operations.
Conduct annual sanitation training for all production and sanitation associates.
Insure that the following programs are in place and up to date: Master Sanitation Schedule, Cleaner/Sanitizer Checks, Spray ball Checks, Drain Cleaning, Pre-Operational and Post Operational documentation, and valve inspection.
Maintain the Master Sanitation Schedule including updating charts monthly.
Complete Sanitary Design Approval for both the building and equipment for each new project to satisfy the Global Quality & Food Safety policy.
Member of project teams working to develop sanitation procedures and perform sanitary design reviews at strategic times in the development and commissioning phases.

 

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications
Bachelorís Degree in food science, engineering, or related field required
Minimum of 5 years of experience in Plant Quality/Sanitation Systems required
Advanced knowledge of quality systems, procedures, and policies required
Advanced knowledge of FDA, USDA and HACCP required
Advanced knowledge in use of statistical and analytical tools preferred
Experience in the food and/or pharmaceutical manufacturing industry preferred
Understanding of microbiological organisms and their impact on process design, sanitary design and sanitation preferred
