Administrator position serves as the lead Food Scientist/Food Technologist
for the Bureau of Food and Meat Inspection, Division of Food Safety, Florida
Department of Agriculture & Consumer Services in Tallahassee,
Florida. The incumbent in this
position oversees the technical regulatory aspects of reduced oxygen
packaging (ROP), modified atmospheric packaging (MAP), low acid canned foods
(LACF), acidified foods, hazard analysis critical control point (HACCP)
programs, evaluates process control documentation and credentials. Also oversees training, performance and
standardization of inspection staff. The Florida
Department of Agriculture & Consumer Services Food Safety Program is
recognized by government, academia and industry as one of the best in the
nation. The Bureau of Food and Meat
Inspection, an essential element of that program, regulates approximately
50,000 food establishments and conducts approximately 80,000 inspections per
year. The Bureau is supported by two
ISO 17025 accredited laboratories; the
Chemical Residue Laboratory and Food Laboratory which support the
Department’s overall Food Safety Program. MINIMUM
REQUIREMENTS: A
Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited college or university with major course
of study in one of the physical or natural sciences and five (5) years of professional experience in environmental or
food protection, regulation or health; or A
Master’s Degree from an accredited college or university with major course of
study in one of the physical or natural sciences and four (4) years of professional experience in environmental or
food protection, regulation or health; or A
Doctorate Degree from an accredited college or university with major course
of study in one of the physical or natural sciences and two (2) years of professional experience in environmental or
food protection, regulation or health. Professional
experience in environmental or food protection, regulation or health can
substitute on a year-for-year basis for the required college education. Possession of a valid Driver License is required. NOTES:
