Panchmahals, Mar 3 :
Around 69 students of a primary school in a village in the district today
suffered from food poisoning after they consumed packaged milk given to them
as part of Gujarat government's 'Van Bandhu Yojana', officials said.
All students have been shifted to a government hospital in Santrampur taluka headquarters,
officials said.
"Around 69 students from Batakwada village
have been admitted to the government hospital after they suffered from food
poisoning," District Collector Milind Toravane told PTI.
"The food poisoning happened after the children consumed milk supplied
by the Panchmahals dairy, given to them as part of
the government's supplementary nutrition programme,"
Toravane said.
According to district administration sources, similar cases were reported
from Vagothara village near Batakwada.
Toravane said there were chances of more cases of
poisoning being reported from nearby villages as milk from the dairy was also
supplied to those areas.
He, however, said there was nothing to fear as the situation was under
control.
The collected samples from milk pouches will be sent for tests.
