Job Description

Contessa Premium Foods, a leader in the frozen convenient meals and international seafood industry, has an immediate opening for a Food Technologist with a creative flair to work in our Corporate Offices in San Pedro, CA. 

This position plays a key role in the Research and Development (R&D) Department by formulating prototypes from concept, developing product label information, translating recipes, developing and validating cooking instructions, providing technical support to manufacturing at production startup, conducting product cuttings, and documenting all product information. 

  • Develops formulas, processing procedures, and specifications for frozen ingredients for new products and product improvements while considering pricing, food regulations, and operational feasibility.
  • Evaluates ingredients and processing techniques to identify product improvement and cost reduction opportunities.
  • Documents all work according to established procedures and guidelines providing timely and effective communication on project status, progress, issues and solutions.
  • Supports development of new products through ideation sessions and bench top experimentation.

If you are a team player who possess the following:

  • Bachelors Degree in Food Science or related field and 3-5 years experience of R&D in the food manufacturing industry.
  • Ability to develop prototypes from recipes and product concepts with a solid knowledge and understanding of food ingredients, food chemistry, food processing, and food functionality.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Understand FDA, USDA, and other food regulatory terms.
  • Knowledgeable of MS Office products and Genesis.
