Summary:

This role is the champion and guardian of Quality and Food Safety for Flavia, North America. Leading the implementation and continual improvement of the Q&FS strategy, the role uses the foundation of the Mars Quality Management Process (the QMP is equivalent to ISO 22000) to guarantee consistently high quality, safe and legal products in all aspects of the supply chain. This is achieved by leading the site Quality teams, working in partnership with key internal clients, and leveraging the resources of the Mars Inc. Global Quality & Food Safety community. By delivering excellence in product quality and food safety we are able to sustain our business and fuel the growth of our brand.
 
Principal Accountabilities:
·          Ensure Safety and legality of Drinks products manufactured in West Chester manufacturing site
·          West Chester site and Quality Systems compliance to the Mars QMP verified by 'fresh eyes' Mars Inc audit and independent 3rd party audit.
·          Manage the Product-Related Incident Management Process (PRIMP) to professionally manage product-related quality incidents for North America and communicate outcomes clearly, internally, externally, and corporately.
·          Ensure alignment with counterparts in Q&FS team based in UK
·          Manage prompt and thorough customer complaints process ensuring appropriate corrective and preventive actions are in place
·          Manage compliance to other customer related requirements e.g. Kosher
·          Drive 'Right First Time' lean philosophy and measures in partnership with Operations.
·          Develop pipeline quality control plans for new products manufactured at West Chester and support Research & Development to ensure that product capability can be sustained long term.
·          Ensure West Chester associates are adequately trained in the use of necessary quality tools, techniques & systems
·         Manage and develop the capability of Quality team associates to drive excellence in our brand
 
Other key facts about the role:
·          Leads site VQA and QA teams
·          Key member of the global Mars Drinks Q&FS leadership team
·          Active participant in global Mars Inc Quality & Food Safety group activities (TC, VC, Global Meetings)
·          International travel 1 - 2 times per year (planned)
·          N.A. travel as required
 

REQUIREMENTS:
·         Bachelor's degree / Masters degree preferred
·         Degree in Food Science or related subject plus 7 years of relevant experience in food industry
·         Proven success in leading and building effective teams

 

KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS:
·         Experience of Food Safety / Quality Management leadership and techniques in the FMCG industry with branded products
·         Sound knowledge of current food safety legislation, Q&FS standards
·         Strong communication and influencing skills, problem analysis and critical thinking skills
·         Driving Quality & Food Safety programmes / culture
·         Incident / complaint management experience
·         Managing complex supply chains / routes to market
·         Dealing with regulatory bodies
·         Leading and developing Quality / Food Safety teams
·         Proven ability to work effectively across functions
 


Role Objectives:
Achieve "Quality by Design" by prioritising and managing: Key Quality attributes as identified by consumers, Food Safety Risks, Legal and ethical parameters.
 

Manage and report against 4 key goals for Mars Inc Q&FS:


·         Customer Complaints to target (details on request) with year one year reduction in quality holds
·         Increase 'First Pass Good' % (details on request)
·         Incident management metrics and y-o-y reduction
·         Achieve Q&FS QMP scores based on global verification (details on request)
Drive the Q&FS Strategies:

  • Foster Quality & Food Safety Culture throughout Mars Drinks NA
  • Establish effective talent pipeline for Q&FS NA
  • Ensure Mars Drinks NA has appropriate knowledge for Quality management and food Safety science
  • Establish the Mars Inc QMP as the single set of Q&FS standards for Mars Drinks
  • Verify the elements of QMP are in place and having the desired results
