The Center for Science in the Public
Interest (CSPI) is a non-profit health-advocacy group based in Washington,
D.C., that focuses on nutrition and food safety. CSPI publishes Nutrition Action
Healthletter, the nation's largest circulation nutrition newsletter. CSPI
provides valuable, objective information to the public, represents citizens'
interests before legislative, regulatory, and judicial bodies, and ensures
that advances in science are used for the public's good. CSPI is supported
largely by the 850,000 U.S. and Canadian subscribers to its Nutrition Action
Healthletter and by foundation grants.
The Food Safety department works to ensure that government regulators, policy
makers, and industry work harder to protect American consumers from the
threats of food contamination and to reduce the burden of foodborne
Interns have an opportunity to work on a broad array of topics, divided into
the following areas of concentration: the production and inspection of meat,
poultry, and seafood; sustainable organic agriculture; food additives; and
Applicants should have strong research, writing and experience with online
research tools; ability to multitask; excellent organizational skills; and an
interest or experience in toxicology, biochemistry, biological sciences, law
or public health. Ability to speak a foreign language is a plus.
This is a paid internship - $8.25/hour for undergraduate and $9.25/hour for
graduate students. This internship is available immediately and will continue
for a period of up to ten weeks. But the specific dates of the internship are
flexible and depend on our needs and the applicants schedule.
