Spring Internship - Food Safety Project - Washington, DC

The Center for Science in the Public Interest

Washington, DC

The Center for Science in the Public Interest (CSPI) is a non-profit health-advocacy group based in Washington, D.C., that focuses on nutrition and food safety. CSPI publishes Nutrition Action Healthletter, the nation's largest circulation nutrition newsletter. CSPI provides valuable, objective information to the public, represents citizens' interests before legislative, regulatory, and judicial bodies, and ensures that advances in science are used for the public's good. CSPI is supported largely by the 850,000 U.S. and Canadian subscribers to its Nutrition Action Healthletter and by foundation grants.

The Food Safety department works to ensure that government regulators, policy makers, and industry work harder to protect American consumers from the threats of food contamination and to reduce the burden of foodborne illnesses.

Interns have an opportunity to work on a broad array of topics, divided into the following areas of concentration: the production and inspection of meat, poultry, and seafood; sustainable organic agriculture; food additives; and pesticide safety.

Applicants should have strong research, writing and experience with online research tools; ability to multitask; excellent organizational skills; and an interest or experience in toxicology, biochemistry, biological sciences, law or public health. Ability to speak a foreign language is a plus.

This is a paid internship - $8.25/hour for undergraduate and $9.25/hour for graduate students. This internship is available immediately and will continue for a period of up to ten weeks. But the specific dates of the internship are flexible and depend on our needs and the applicants schedule.
