Senior Quality Assurance Manager *(food manufacturing)
Specialty Baked Goods - San Francisco, CA

 

For over 30-years, we’ve been developing and producing distinctive baked goods. Today, we supply to the largest blue chip coffee chains and specialty grocery retailers in the US and in Canada. We seek a dynamic Senior QA Manager to lead our initiatives to meet GFSI , GMO customer requests and organic certification.

Our QA department is solid, every year we get high marks in our Cook & Thurber and AIB audits. This newly created position will lead the QA team to better prepare us to grow over the next 2- 3 years. The Senior QA Manager will lead a team of 5 and work collaboratively with R & D, Operations, Purchasing and Sales, to implement new certification programs, BRC, SQF, organic and GMO.

We are seeking candidates with experience in leading teams to achieve these certifications and ideally with some prior experience in baked goods but minimally, they should have experience with solid food process.

Responsibilities

*Supervise and coordinate activities of Quality Assurance Manager and QA Techs including measuring individual and department performance and managing all aspects of the QA department including budget.

*Collaborate with Operations to establish and validate the procedures (e.g. SOPs) that ensure consistent quality and food safety production, while supporting product development and commercialization processes and operational efficiency strategy.

*Establish company quality goals and food safety principles through continuous improvement ensuring compliance with GFSI, FDA, USDA, and other relevant government, customer audits and private industry standards

*Work closely with R&D to support the introduction and commercialization of new products to maintain all quality and food safety mandates

*Establish and monitor production standards, examining samples of raw product and/or directing testing during processing, to ensure finished products are of prescribed quality and food safety

*Utilize statistical data techniques (e.g. SPC) to monitor production performance

*Reduce risk associated with food safety and quality programs through effective system design, implementation and compliance

*In conjunction with Purchasing - assure vendors meet quality standards utilizing various tools such as vendor assessment questionnaires, vendor site inspections and on-site testing.

Experience & Requirements

*Minimum 7 years’ experience with full responsibility for leading and managing QA department in food manufacturing (with a strong preference for baked goods)

*Bachelor’s Degree in Food Science, Bakery Science or related discipline and/or a demonstrated work history of equivalent work experience.

*Prior experience in successful implementation of GFSI & organic certification programs in a bakery or similar manufacturing facility. Must have led either BRC or SQF

*Extensive experience with GMP’s, HAACP, FDA, third-party and customer audits
