Food Science is a department in the Dale Bumpers College of Agricultural, Food and Life Sciences and Division of Agriculture at the University of Arkansas that serves as a primary source of higher education, fundamental and applied research and public service. The Department of Food Science fosters programs for achieving regional, national and international excellence that contribute to the advancement of knowledge and technologies, professional development and economic success of individuals and food and food related enterprises.

The Department of Food Science consists of 16 nationally recognized faculty and 12 adjunct faculty along with outstanding support personnel who are dedicated to teaching, research and service in areas of food chemistry and biochemistry, food microbiology and safety, food processing and engineering, sensory and consumer science and human nutrition. The Food Science facilities including classrooms, laboratories and food processing pilot plant are modern and well equipped for effective education and research.

Minimum Qualifications:

Bachelor's degree required with preferred qualification of background in food science, food safety, or a related field. Must be comfortable with using a computer as well as knowledgeable and proficient in Microsoft Office suite software. Must be willing to learn the eXtension web interface and become a proficient user of this interface. Must be outgoing and be able to work well with a variety of people.Applicant must have excellent oral and written communication skills.

Overall Purpose/Job Objective:

Farmers Market Food Safety Program: This program is based on a nationally funded project focusing on enhancing the safety of fresh produce handling at farmers market venues. This program is designed to equip farmers market vendors, market managers, and consumers with both scientifically-based and practical behaviors that will reduce the likelihood of a foodborne outbreak.

Job Description: The successful candidate will work with the Primary Investigator (PI), Co-PIs, collaborators, and project partners to facilitate the marketing, communication and planning needs of the project. The successful candidate will serve as the organizational manager of this program and will assist the PI with all objectives related to the successful completion of this project.

Responsibilities include:
50% time dedicated to working directly with the Community, Local & Regional Food Systems eXtension Community of Practice (CLRFS eCoP) and assisting the CLRFS eCoP leadership with communications, planning, social networking, and logistics support.
-Support the CLRFS eCoP leadership and assist with communications between leadership and working groups
-Assist with CLRFS eCoP leadership team communications and planning of meetings and events
-Develop means to communicate regularly with CLRFS eCoP members about upcoming webinars, web meetings, notices about new articles published or announcements about resources available. New communications practices may include eNewsletter, Google groups, Facebook, Linked-in groups, etc.
-Assist CLRFS eCoP Content Boundaries and Creation Working Group with developing, editing and reviewing content as well as finding reviewers for articles
-Support the planning and marketing of regional or national meet-ups for CLRFS eCoP members
-Expand CLRFS eCoP social media presence by working with the Marketing and Social Media Working Group
50% dedicated to project management for the Farmers Market Food Safety Program
-Manage the project with respect to adhering to timelines and submitting annual reports in a timely fashion
-Assist with the organization of online focus groups with farmers market vendors and managers
-Conduct surveys and online focus groups with farmers market consumers
-Facilitate the development of a dynamic resource to link local jurisdiction requirements for farmers markets
-Work closely with national organizations that are serving as collaborators or partners on this project and facilitate communication between these organizations and the project leaders.
