Food Scientist
Bob Evans Farms, Inc.

This position is responsible for applying a strong commitment and knowledge to the importance of food safety and brand protection to ensure the integrity of the food products purchased for use at the restaurant level. This position will conduct basic research and new product research and development.

Responsible for the food safety/quality assurance function of product categories, working with the purchasing and development teams to research alternate source and product optimization.

Performs product audits, product matching, data analysis, creating reports and pro-active communication with suppliers.

Performs routine audits based upon food safety sensitivities, dollar amount spent, and brand integrity components. Auditing/evaluation of products, analyzing data, producing reports, and communication of results internally with purchasing and development as well as to suppliers.

Ensures supplier alignment; specifications will be reviewed for alignment and relevance on an annual basis. Reviews will focus on the completeness of quality and technical detail of the specification with the intent of continual improvement such as reduced variability in performance over time.

Supports the regular auditing and approval of new suppliers by establishing, communicating, and documenting performance criteria and documenting audit results internally with purchasing and development as well as the respective suppliers.

Requirements:
Excellent reasoning and mathematical Skills
Good organizational skills
Good communication skills, ability to work with diverse groups of people including Marketing, Sales and Production
Broad understanding of production processing equipment and processes

Education/Experience:
Bachelor's degree in food science, food technology, chemistry, engineering and other sciences
2-4 years experience in a similar job function
Food manufacturing experience desired

TRAVEL REQUIREMENTS:
Travel may be required up to 20% day and overnight.
