Currently, Meijer is looking for a Director of Food Safety.  The individual selected for this position will be responsible for serving as the central driver for all food safety standards throughout the organization; has primary responsibility for the development and implementation of food safety and regulatory compliance policies and procedures for all federal regulated businesses and provides Leadership and technical support/expertise to manufacturing in conducting audits and to product development, product innovation and retail operations.

 

Key responsibilities include:

          Advising management on issues related to food safety, crisis prevention and management and regulatory compliance

         Directing the development of quality control practices for overall corporate operations in order to protect the organization from liability and to promote customer satisfaction

         Establishing plans to provide quality control training to personnel throughout the organization

         Establishing standards for selection of private label vendors and for monitoring vendor performance in the areas of quality

         Overseeing the operation of the 3rd Party quality control laboratory

         Working closely with retail operations, legal and the finance departments to manage risk and minimize liability expenses

         Overseeing the relationships with appropriate regulatory bodies

         Identifying and implementing food safety best practices

         Ensuring the absolute safety of Own Brand products manufactured at Meijer facilities

         Reducing variation and optimizing quality of all Own Brand products manufactured at Meijer facilities

         Designing, developing and implementing Safe Quality Foods (SQF) systems for deployment and sustainment in Meijer Own Brand manufacturing facilities

         Managing multiple complex quality assurance projects

         Managing and directing the financials for the quality assurance function

         Liaison with Food and Drug Regulatory agencies (i.e., FDA, USDA)

         Staying current on state, federal and local regulations and developing strategic thinking relative to legislative efforts

         Identifying emerging issues related to food safety and working collaboratively across the organization to ensure safety standards

         Attracting, developing and maintaining staff to ensure uncompromised quality of Meijer Own Brand Products produced internally and serving as the Corporate liaison for other Own Brand products manufactured by others

         Establishing SQF Certification in collaboration with the Director of Manufacturing

         Building/sustaining a culture of Food Safety

Qualifications

 

         Bachelors Degree in Food Science or comparable related work experience

         8-10 years experience in food safety, quality assurance, food and drug regulations plus operational management  leadership experience

         Specialized Certification Needed:  American Society for Quality: Certified Quality Manager, Certified Quality Engineer, Certified Quality Auditor

         Strong verbal and written communication skills

         Established SQF certification in an organization and is a SQF practitioner solving

         Technical knowledge and experience in Statistical Process Controls and Process Improvement Programs such as LEAN or Six Sigma

         Extensive knowledge and experience in managing financials for a department, driving down cost and increasing quality

         Must know how to thrive in a fast paced, retail environment
