The Food Safety /Sanitation manager will be a member of the global Quality Systems team, reporting to the VP Global Quality, based in Lisle, IL.

The successful incumbent will provide strategic and operational leadership to the McCain Foods Limited food safety program. This position will have responsibility to further develop and standardize the food safety management systems; develop standard training materials on effective sanitation techniques and processes; audit the effectiveness of food safety and sanitation management systems.

Key responsibilities:

Provide strategic and operational direction and leadership to McCain Foods Limited food safety programs.

Standardize, implement, and audit effectiveness of food safety management systems.

Provide technical leadership to assure that the manufacturing processes and environments are microbiologically safe for the production of food products.

Interpret sensitive food safety related technical information and provide objective science based recommendations.

Approve design of microbiology-related studies for understanding and management of product and process development risk.

Provide technical leadership in the implementation of cleaning and sanitation programs.

Evaluate and provide guidance on proper design and construction of food plants and equipment from the food safety/sanitation perspective.

Design of microbiological challenge studies. Scientifically validated risk management studies extend product shelf life and ensure minimal regulatory risk for new technologies. Errors in data or judgment are extremely costly and have a negative impact on consumer satisfaction.

Maximizing OEE while striving for world class sanitation standards.

Minimum of BS Degree in Chemistry, Microbiology, Food Science or related field

Minimum of 5 years experience in managing food safety in a food processing environment

Registered Food Sanitarian

Functional expert in food plant sanitation

In-depth knowledge of food safety, food microbiology, manufacturing processes, food regulation, sanitary design and quality management.

Strong communication, influencing and conflict management skills

Ability to effectively interact with vendors, consultants, and regulatory agencies as an agent of the company
