We are working with a grower/shipper/ packer
in Northern CA who seeks a Food Safety Specialist to be responsible for
the implantation of their food safety program. The Food Safety Specialist
will be responsible for managing 1-5 employees and ensuring that
approximately 200 employees are trained and adhering to all food safety policies.
JOB FUNCTION:
Assist
in developing and implementing GAP and GMP programs.
Perform
daily verification of GAPs and GMPs by conducting regular field and
facility inspections.
Conduct
monthly internal GAP and GMP audits.
Ensure
all company food safety policies, SOP's, and SSOP's are be followed.
Assist
with recall and trace back program.
Train
and effectively communicate food safety policies to all company
employees and growers.
Maintaining
necessary compliance paperwork related to food safety and organic
programs.
Verify
that all fertilizer and chemicals applications are approved for use
and meet U.S., Canada, and Japan MRL standards.
Conduct
routine equipment swabbing and analyze results.
Collect
water, soil, and field product samples.
Assist
sales department with quality assurance questions and updates.
Accompany
customers and 3rd party auditors on field audits, inspections, and
quality monitoring.
Communicate
with customer food safety teams and aid them in their requests.
Attend
annual customer meetings, industry events, and continuing education
classes.
Maintain
updated organic certification for all growing regions.

workers on OSHA requirements, proper workplace behavior, and company
policies.
Assist
with workers compensation claim investigations.
Schedule
monthly tailgate meetings with ranch foremen to discuss workplace
safety.
Ensuring
proper equipment use and provide protective equipment to employees
when necessary.
Renew
annual business permits and licenses with local county and state
agencies.
Maintain
up to date chemical inventory and MSDS files.
Special
Requirements:
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
BA/BS
degree in Food Science preferred or Associates degree.
Minimum
1-5 years of experience.
Excellent
interpersonal and assertiveness skills, necessary to maintain
effective and cordial working relationships while, at the same time,
come to resolution/agreement.
Computer
literate; must have experience using Word and Excel and Outlook.
Detail
oriented.
Bilingual-English
and Spanish
Reliable/dependable.
Valid
US Driver’s License.
