The Position: The
Department of Food Science & Human Nutrition seeks a dynamic
experienced food service professional for the Quantity Foods Manager
position in the Hospitality Management program. This is a 100% 9-month
non-tenured academic professional position. This position also
carries a zero percent Teaching Associate title. The Hospitality
Management program includes the Bevier Café and Spice Box student-operated
restaurants on the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign Campus.
Job Description: The
Quantity Foods Manager is responsible for: teaching laboratory sections
of FSHN 340-Food Production and Service for both hospitality management
and dietetics majors in both the fall and spring semesters, with the
possibility of summer sections; managing the day-to-day operations of
the Bevier Café and associated enterprises, including hands-on food
preparations; the development and execution of a business plan for the
successful operations and financial self-sustainment of the Bevier
Café, Bevier Café coffee shop and catering operations; and as needed
assist with FSHN 443-Management of Fine Dining and the Spice Box fine
dining restaurant.
Additionally, the position will
work with Food Science & Human Nutrition faculty in related
research projects.
Qualifications:
The successful candidate must
possess a bachelor’s degree in hospitality management, dietetics,
nutrition, or related field. The candidate must have established
skills in the food service and hospitality industries with a minimum of
3-5 years’ of experience along with the demonstrated ability to: create
exciting menus for our customers; provide hands on food preparation;
and translate food preparation procedures to the students in the
laboratory sessions. The candidate must have an in-depth knowledge of
culinary terms and food production techniques that can be successfully
taught to the students. The candidate must possess
analytical and organizational skills; excellent oral and written
communication skills; and the ability to work independently as well as
in a team environment. A valid Illinois Food Service Sanitation
Certification is required prior to employment.
Preferred qualifications in
addition to the above include but are not limited to: a 2-year
culinary degree or extensive culinary experience; demonstrated
knowledge in the operation of a menu management system that supports
all phases of food production; proficiency with windows-based PCs; and
strong leadership, management, and education skills.
Salary Statement: The
salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience.
