Food Technologist


Position Objective:

The Food Technologist position will work within the Cargill Food Applications NA organization. The position, goal is to drive added value by developing new food and beverage products using Cargill’s ingredients. This position focuses on bench top development of prototypes and ingredient systems that will require an innovative approach. This position is responsible for the creation of bench top and scale-up production samples for internal, customer, and consumer tests. This position will support a wide range of project activities including new products, line extensions, and product improvements all pertaining to the food industry. Responsibilities include: new Product formulation, physical/analytical testing, pilot plant support, scale-up support, start-up support, nutrition and costing analysis, and documentation of experiments. This position is an entry level position and will require good interpersonal skills and self-initiative. Also, this position will require occasional travel.

Principal Accountabilities:

- Bench top prototype development and testing

- Design productsthat are technologically feasible on a production line

- Nutrition and cost analysis of formulas

- Ability to manage multiple projects on a deadline basis

- Become knowledgeable about pilot plant equipment

- Category ingredient inventory management

- Assistance during the scale-up and start-up of new products

- Compliance with Cargill Food Safety and EH&S policies

- Create IP to help Cargill capture value from innovation

- Document and protect all information as required by company policy

- Continue skill development to maintain technical expertise

- Have the ability to work with minimal supervision

- Other duties as required


Job Locations:

- Various U.S. locations - must be open to relocation.  





Required Qualifications:

- Bachelors Degree in Food Science or related field

- Basic food ingredient knowledge and ability to formulate food products

- Demonstrated problem-solving skills

- Proven innovation and creativity

- Good interpersonal and teamwork skills

- Takes initiative in technical problem solving

- Knowledge of Microsoft Office - Excel, Word, PowerPoint

- Good communication skills, both written and oral

- Ability to travel, up to 15%

- Right to work in the U.S. that is not based soley on possession of a student visa or a visa sponsored by a third-party employer


Desired Qualifications:

- Overall GPA 3.0 preferred.

- Ability to prioritize and manage a large workload with multiple priorities.

- Demonstrated problem solving and decision-making.

- Strong leadership and technical skills.

- Demonstrated ability of collaboration, communication, motivation, interpersonal effectiveness, teamwork and successful completion of work.
