Lab Assistant Bakery Technology

This position will be a member of the Bakery Technology team and assist in the development of bakery products. The position is part of a team consisting of food scientists and culinarians. The mission of our team is to create significant opportunities for customers, the Bakery Category and our clients business units by researching, developing and assisting in the commercialization of unique grain based food systems and solutions, and technically insulating the resultant intellectual property to assure our client has a means of sharing in the value created.

This position will support a wide range of project activities including prototype/product development, ingredient system development, customer sampling, and product improvement all pertaining to bakery product development. Responsibilities include formulation work, prototype approval and nutrition, documentation of lab work, and sensory/analytical testing.

The key duties of the position are as follows:

  • Apply knowledge in food and bakery science to the development of new bakery products
  • Bench top prototype development and testing
  • Work with prototype and ingredient approval systems
  • Utilize nutritional database
  • Documentation of lab work and protection of information as required by company policy
  • Internal and external prototype presentations
  • Other duties as required

Requirements:
  
Education, Skills and Experience:

  • Bachelors Degree in Food Science or related field preferred
  • Basic food ingredient knowledge and ability to perform formulation
  • Experience developing and testing bakery products
  • Demonstrated project work with ability to achieve results and execute multiple simultaneous projects
  • Demonstrated problem-solving skills
  • Proven innovation and creativity
  • Good interpersonal and teamwork skills
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office - Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Access (desired)
