Responsibilities/Skills/Experience Requirements

*Ensures
all stores and distribution centers within an assigned region comply with
corporate food safety programs and federal, state, and local regulations.
Uses knowledge of current food safety issues and food codes in the
implementation of programs.
*Establishes and maintains professional working relationships with
federal, state, and local regulating authorities while acting as a
liaison on behalf of Kmart Corporation.
*Visits and inspects company facilities on a regular basis. Prepares
written reports on findings, orchestrates corrective actions, and
monitors compliance throughout the network of stores and distribution
centers.
*Enforces established policies and procedures for the inspection and
disposition of all food items that may have become contaminated or
otherwise unwholesome or unsafe for human consumption.
*Directs the day-to-day activities of field technicians contracted from
national vendors to support corporate food safety activities and
programs.
*Enforces food safety policies and procedures relating to the rejection
and disposition of any receipts that may have an adverse effect on the
safety of food within all Kmart facilities. Implements and monitors the
corporate food recall program.
*Updates store and distribution center operations on the latest food
safety standard operating procedures, bulletins and related documents to
keep up-to-date information on regulations and procedures available.
*Conducts food safety training seminars for store and distribution center
associates as necessary. Works in partnership with regional facility
managers to train all facility managers on the food safety program
including physical inspection and reporting for all Kmart properties.
*Identifies potential food safety issues for the company, acts
proactively and takes immediate corrective action to limit the company’s
exposure.
KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/ABILITIES
Bachelor’s degree in Entomology, Food Science, Food Technology, or Food
Microbiology, with a minimum of five (5) years food safety, food science,
food quality assurance, or public health experience or equivalent; or
Associates degree in Food Science, Food Technology, Food Microbiology, or
Entomology, with a minimum of eight (8) years food safety, food science,
food quality assurance, or public health experience or equivalent; or
High school diploma with a minimum of ten (10) years food safety, food
science, food quality assurance, or public health experience or
equivalent.
Must possess full knowledge of food safety regulations, food safety
policies, and internal/external best practice programs.
Strong working knowledge of food safety issues, food codes and related
federal, state and local regulations.
Demonstrated ability to develop and write effective technical standard
operating procedures, bulletins and other critical documents.
Excellent communications, interpersonal, organizational, administrative
and managerial skills.
Demonstrated ability to conduct effective training programs.
Good knowledge of various mainframes and personal computer software
applications including Excel, Work and Power Point.
Ability to travel 3 out of 4 weeks per month to facilities in assigned
region.
Local candidates preferred.
