DUTY LOCATIONS:   vacancy(s) in one of the following locations:   few vacancies - Silver Spring, MD

NMFS is dedicated to stewardship of our nation's living marine 
resources, and the habitat on which they depend, through scientific 
research, management and enforcement. NMFS provides effective 
stewardship of these resources to benefit the nation, through 
domestic and international programs supporting coastal communities 
that depend upon them, while providing safe and healthy seafood to 
consumers and recreational opportunities for the public.

This position is in the National Marine Fisheries Service, Seafood 
Inspection Program, located in Silver Spring, MD. 
This position is covered under the Dept. of Commerce Alternate 
Personnel System (CAPS). CAPS replaced the Federal General Schedule 
(GS) pay plan and structure. Under the project, positions are 
classified by career path, pay plan and pay band. The Pay Band ZA-5 
is equivalent to the GS-15 grade level.
The Seafood Inspection Program offers a variety of professional 
inspection services (e.g., establishment sanitation inspection, 
process audits, fishery products inspection, training and 
consultation) to assure compliance with all applicable food 
Inspection services can be provided nationwide, in U.S. territories, 
and foreign countries. All types of establishments such as vessels, 
processing plants, and retail facilities may receive these 
services. All edible product forms ranging from whole fish to 
formulated products, as well as fish products used for animal foods, 
are eligible for inspection and certification. The official 
government forms and certificates issued by U.S. Department of 
Commerce inspectors are legal documents recognized in any U.S. court.
