Food Safety Specialist

This position reports to the District Manager. This position will serve as the food safety expert for this business dining account. Requires a strong understanding of food safety regulations (both DOH and local) and best practices is essential.   Must possess the ability to assess potential food safety risks and propose potential solutions.


1)    Conduct all food safety checks within the given location. 

2)    Monitor employee daily checks (temp, cleaning, storage, sanitation).

3)    Technical expert in food safety with respect to food safety exposures.
4)    Develop, execute and maintain all regulatory compliance programs associated with food safety.
5)    Assess training needs associated with food safety, develop a structured training program and determine the appropriate delivery model for regulatory, safe food handling training (Servesafe).

6)    Develop LOB specific, food safety technical programs based upon their needs.
7)    Develop, execute and maintain site strategy for governmental/regulatory compliance inspections; Report findings to the FSD and District Manager.

8)    Point of Contact for Vendors (Ecolab etc).

9)    Point of contact with Department of Agriculture visits. Address any issues within agreed upon or reason timeframe.
10)  Develop a local auditing program that will be focused on the prevention of food safety issues.
11)  Assist LOB in identifying exposures associated with Department of Health regulations, while assisting them with regulatory compliance.
12)  Assist LOB during any alleged food borne illness outbreaks, and or any type of other claims associated with food.

13)  Work closely with Corp safety and risk control department and other corporate teams' to make sure that the location safety program is up-to-date.

14)  Work with Corp on Safety and risk control projects as needed.

15)  Interact with the internal and external Food Safety communities, building strong relationships with local Departments of Health and other groups relevant to food safety.





This position requires a Bachelors degree coupled with 3-5 plus years of food safety experience. 

The ideal candidate would have Operations experience and responsibility for multiple and complex food safety environments. 

A strong understanding of food safety and best practices.

Knowledge of Department of Health and local food safety regulations are also required. 

Minimum Safeserv certified (Instructor and Proctor certification desired.  Certified Food Safety Professional designation ((NRFSP, NEHA) is preferred.

The individual in this position should have strong written and verbal communication skills, time management skills and the ability to problem solve.  Being proficient in the Microsoft Applications is a must.
