I.          Job Purpose (Main Reason the Job Exists)

 

 

This position will establish, develop and manage the company’s Quality Assurance Program, including policies and procedures, objective, organization and measurements.  This person will ensure the quality of the company’s products meet the requirements, specifications, and quality standards established by customers and company.  In addition, the person will interface with Sales, Manufacturing, Research & Development, and Customer Service to establish quality requirements on individual products and services on the basis of customer need, function of the product and its reliability.  This person will manage the in-process; receiving and outgoing inspection systems; establish procedures and criteria; evaluate cause of product defect and quality issues and assist in the assessment of customer product complaints and responsible for Food Safety.

Development, management and monitoring of all aspects of Quality function to prevent recalls and withdrawals. To head withdrawals and recalls activities if needed.

Maintaining food safety and regulatory program compliance. Ensure that internal food safety inspections are being conducted.

Maintain QA programs

Improve and implement all QA and Sanitation programs: Environmental, Kosher, GFCO, Organic, Master cleaning schedule, Pest Control, Chemical Control, HACCP, QA manual, Sanitation manual.

Audits/Inspections

Ensure the plant is audit ready daily. Point of contact for all QA inspections/audits.

Customer Complaints

Investigate and report all customer complaints. Report findings to QA Director.

Customer requests

Ensure that all customer requests are completed by QA Specialist in a timely matter.

 

7.

Training/ Team Building

Manage and foster a team environment with all employees and departments. Provide coaching and training to QA Specialist, QA technicians and Sanitation Supervisor. Ensure that production associates are being trained in QA and Sanitation items.

Manage departmental operational and capital budgets.

III.        Jobholder Entry Requirements

Education

B.S./MS in Food Science, Biological Sciences or related degree

Experience

Five plus years as Quality Supervisor or Manager in food industry.

Skills & Competence

Extensive knowledge in the areas of HACCP, SSOPs, GMPs, FDA, USDA, organic, kosher.  Excellent written and oral communication skills.

Equipment/Software

Proficient in Microsoft Office products, i.e., Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Bilingual English/Spanish

VII.      Essential Physical and Mental Requirements

Physical (sitting, walking, climbing, lifting, etc.): The position requires sitting at a desk and working with a computer. Frequent walking in a plant environment is required. Occasional lifting, climbing and stretching may be required.

 

Sensory (visual, hearing, speaking, smell, etc.): Frequent verbal and written communication is required. Frequent work at a computer screen is necessary. Ear protection in the plant is necessary because of plant noise.

 

Mental (reading, writing, reasoning, analyzing, learning, etc.): Requires excellent reasoning and analytical skills and clear communication of results.
