Food Chemistry Director – Battle Creek, MI


Kellogg Company has an exciting opportunity for a Food Chemistry Director in our Battle Creek, MI. This position is responsible for:
1. In conjunction with the Technical Managers, Sr. Director, and VP takes a leadership role in the development and execution of food chemistry initiatives and projects on a global basis.
2. Acts as a Business partner, providing cross-functional chemistry support to business units, by setting strategy for the use and development of food chemistry resources across business units.
3. Provides support and advice to all areas, promoting shared learning relating to methods and tools used in the Food Chemistry field.
4. Reviews and manages subordinate performance utilizing all components of the PMP tools. Responsible for training and development of staff, using advanced food chemistry knowledge to manage technical development of subordinates.
5. Prioritizes use of technical resources against active PDR list.
6. Directs the investigation and development of new testing methodologies and/or opportunities for RQT and manufacturing.
7. Directs activities of subordinate scientists who are serving as business unit partners. Manages the design, execution, analysis and interpretation of all food chemistry analysis and results.
8. Applies advanced knowledge of food chemistry principals and strategically integrates food chemistry data with other functional information to set direction and minimize risk in business decisions.

Position Requirements

PhD in Food Science/Food Chemistry, Analytical/Physical Chemistry, Biochemistry or related field with a minimum of 5+ years of Food Chemistry experience is preferred or a M.S. in Food Science/Food Chemistry, Analytical/Physical Chemistry, Biochemistry or related field with 10+ years experience in Food Chemistry.

Food or pharmaceutical industry experience is preferred.

At least 5 years of previous management experience is required, preferably in a chemistry-related area with laboratory operational experience.

- Excellent time management, project management, presentation, and oral and written communication skills.
-Demonstrated strong leadership skills and the ability to fully develop and leverage scientific personnel and resources.
-Must be adept at effectively leading project teams, under tight deadlines and while directing the activities of scientific personnel in multiple food chemistry disciplines.
Additionally, the ability to interact well with other employees and work overtime, as necessary, is required.
