POSITION SUMMARY

The Food Technologist manages the new product prototype development process and manages all aspects of test kitchen operation.  Additionally, the Food Technologist develops product performance measurement systems, providing statistical basis for decision making.  The Food Technologist represents the company with customers and the media.

Duties:

    

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned

1.     

Own and drive several key steps in the Product Development Process.  Including (but not limited to) prototype development, product formulations, operational definitions, raw material specifications, and technical details for plant trials. Develop bench-top prototypes and assist in the execution of plant trials/product scale-up research leading to the development of new products and line extensions as directed by the BDU team

2.     

Maintaint all necessary documents on Product Spec Database and Quick Place required by R&D including Product Formulas

         Processing Procedures

         Raw Material Product Spec's

         Operational Definitions

         Organoleptic Attribute Assessments

         All supplier documents (product spec's, MSDS, allergen declaration, USDA letter of guarantee, etc.)

3.     

Drive the new product ideation process by conducting New Product Innovation Sessions.  Sessions incorporate new technologies, trends and processes which can lead to new products, line extensions or product improvements.  Finished product concepts are submitted to BDU via BOP process

4.     

Develop and execute ongoing monitoring systems utilizing sensory analysis methods

5.     

Conduct product improvement projects including cost reductions and performance improvements

6.     

Develop reconstitution methods and directions for all finished products by testing multiple methods for retail, deli and food service products.

7.     

Provide work direction to the R&D Technician working in the test kitchen.  This includes training on all kitchen equipment operations, testing procedures, monitoring procedures and personal safety.

8.     

Manage Gold'n Plump test kitchen by maintaining all equipment, ingredients and maintain a safe work environment

9.     

Deal directly with customers to resolve product performance issues

10.  

Present prototype and/or conceptual new products to customers as needed.

11.  

Represent Gold'n Plump to the media via cooking shows and public appearances.

         Participates in process improvement and problem solving utilizing continuous improvement and rational thinking methodologies such as Six Sigma, and participates in or supports the E$P program

Qualifications:

 

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

  • B.S. in Food Science or related field.
  • Excellent communication skills including report writing, presentation, and public speaking.
  • Must have strong culinary, analytical skills. Must drive statistically based decision making.
  • Prior development experience for 3 - 5 years is highly desirable.
