OUR CLIENT is seeking a Sr. Director of Food Quality &
Safety with the following qualifications:
OUR CLIENT: Is a well established food manufacturing firm located in
Houston, Texas.
THE OPPORTUNITY:
Our client currently has an immediate opening for a Sr.
Director of Food Quality & Safety. The Sr. Director of Food
Quality & Safety will be responsible for providing leadership and
direction in support of operational excellence, expanded markets (larger
footprint) and a more profitable portfolio. This includes assurance
of compliance to all regulations and appropriate standards at all sites,
the development and maintenance of policies in the area of Food Quality and
Food Safety. The Director is also responsible for the development of
processes to achieve the policy objectives in these areas and, to provide
assurance that personnel in all sites and at all levels have the necessary
understanding of the policies and processes regarding food safety to
fulfill their responsibilities.
REQUIRED EXPERIENCE:
- Food
Safety – Compliance with AIB and Safety Quality Food (SQF)
Certification and no incidences
- 10 +
years managing FDA & USDA regulatory compliance
- Recall
management experience
- Experience
with food safety and systems
QUALIFICATIONS, KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES:
- Advanced
technical degree in microbiology, chemistry, food science or closely
related discipline
- Minimum
of 15 years experience in food manufacturing management, preferably in
the food industry, with demonstrated success at the Director of
Quality Assurance level
- Strong
quantitative skills, interpersonal skills, and the ability to think
critically
- Self-directed
with the ability to work independently as well as with groups
- Excellent
verbal and written communication skills
- Ability
to effectively plan, organize and prioritize work
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Assurance
of compliance to all regulations and standards at all sites
- Ensures
highly disciplined compliance with all regulatory and Company defined
food safety and sanitation standards, systems, procedures, and
practices to guarantee absolute wholesomeness of our product.
- Examples
of these systems include Vendor Certification, Inbound Inspection,
Microbiological Testing, Lot Tracking, daily and periodic Sanitation,
HACCP, Pest Control, and Food Safety and Quality Systems Training.
- Conduct
regular inspections of all facilities, discuss findings with the site
manager and work with the site manager to develop the appropriate
action plans
- Keep
abreast of federal and state regulations, codes and other key
constraints including changes to them, assess the potential impact on
the Company and develop proposed plans to assure compliance, and
report the recommendations to all levels of leadership.
2. Assure proper record-keeping of results (see above) in
all areas and develop effective and efficient reporting mechanisms that
meet the regulations and that keep leadership informed.
- Work
appropriately with regulatory and standard-developing bodies regarding
new and / or proposed regulations and standards.
- Communicate
and proactively address the requirements of new regulations and
standards.
3. Development and maintenance of policies in the area of
Food Safety
- Develop
and/or update as necessary policies in food safety and facilitate
review and approval of these policies with input from site
managers. These policies should include, but are not limited to:
- The
achievement of the measureable results listed above
- Industrial
Hygiene program
- Working
through the leadership, and site managers, assure policies are
understood by employees.
4. The development of processes to achieve the policy objectives
in food safety
- Take
the food safety policies to actionable levels through the development
of documented processes that are consistent with all regulations and
that are consistent across the Company’s system.
- Develop
a method to measure performance against the policies and processes and
report progress on a regular basis.
- Work
with all site leadership to develop annual work-plans that improve the
processes as well as the results from the processes.
5. Provide assurance that personnel in all sites and at all
levels have the necessary understanding of policies, processes,
regulations, etc to fulfill their responsibilities
6. Oversees, directs, and manages the Quality Assurance
function to ensure highly disciplined compliance with all product and process
quality parameters and standards including formulations, specifications,
approved methods, procedures, practices and systems. These systems include:
- Product
and process quality management system (Product Quality Guarantee)
- Customer
complaint response, resolution, and tracking
- Product
quality evaluation
- Foreign
matter/metal monitoring, resolution, and tracking
program
- Obtains
excellent quality results, as measured by customer complaint
frequency, product evaluation scores, internal and external facility
and operational audit scores, quality systems compliance, and other
formal and informal feedback mechanisms, using existing methods,
procedures, and systems.
- Manages
Technical Services function to build and maintain adequacy and
accuracy of technical data, including specifications for product and
process parameters and procedures, labeling details, formulations,
recipes, and batch sheets. This function also facilitates and
spearheads product and process troubleshooting.
- Develops,
implements, and sustains new methods and procedures to drive
improvements in quality and safety.
Works with Plant Managers, Plant Engineers and other team members to
ensure effective preventive & emergency maintenance activities.
- Manages
departmental activity to comply with all applicable safety laws and
regulations, as well as Company safety policies, procedures and
standards.
- Works
with division and plant team members to ensure a safe work
environment, including participating in safety inspections, safety
training, leading safety work group meetings, and developing and
executing safety awareness initiatives.
- Works
to optimize efficiency within budgeted spending limits
- Responsible
for all food safety and quality assurance activity and results for two
plants.
DIRECT REPORTS AND RELATIONSHIPS INCLUDE:
- The
Sr. Director of Food Quality & Safety will report directly to VP
Manufacturing and Engineering with a dotted line to the CEO.
