Function and Scope of Role: The Senior Food Scientist in the Nutrition
applications area is a senior level R&D technical position requiring
broad-based experience in the research and development of functional
ingredients and/or products. This position requires strong program and
project management skills with a high level of technical creativity.
Responsibilities and Activities:
- Identifying and designing new ingredients based on customer, patent,
scientific and business perspectives. Lead and drive the development of
novel, carbohydrate-derived functional ingredients.
Management - Manage and coach 2-3 scientists/junior level project leaders
in internal and external development projects. Technical Support - Function
as technical liaison with internal support groups.
- Drive projects from concept to hand off to commercialization teams.
Criteria: 1. PhD in Food Science or related technical field with 6 - 9 yrs experience in developing ingredients or consumer
products for the food industry OR MS with 9 - 12 yrs
of similar experience. 2. Solid understanding of starch chemistry and
processing highly desirable. 3. Experience in nutritional products desired.
4. Ability to communicate complex technical information (formally and
informally) to a variety of internal and external scientists and managers.
5. Expertise with Stage Gate or equivalent portfolio management process,
including experience managing matrixed R&D
teams. 6. Good business acumen and the ability to operate effectively in a matrixed and complex environment. 7. Familiarity with
various search engines for review of patents and primary technical
literature. 8. Strong project and program management skills. 9. Strong
people management skills. 10. Excellent communication and organizational
