POSITION SUMMARY

Coordinate development and maintenance of Food Safety and Food Quality programs for the manufacturing facility as required by the site manufacturing Plant President, Flowers Foods Corporate QA, governing regulatory agencies, independent 3rd party audit firms, and customers. Audit and monitor plant processes to verify that the plant is in compliance with all food safety and mandatory quality systems including but not limited to a routine review of the plant product formulations, HACCP program, GMP Programs, Allergen programs, and Quality Systems. Work with plant management to ensure that procedures exist to investigate the cause of significant non-conformity against standards, specifications and procedures, which are critical to product safety, legality and quality.

TASK DESCRIPTION

Major recurring tasks include:

  • Assist Plant President to ensure that the facility and all contractors/ vendors are in compliance with all Federal, State and Local regulations pertaining to Food Safety and Quality.
  • Review product formulations to assure that they are in line with the current nutrition labeling information.
  • Initiate annual plant Mock Traceability/Recalls exercise
  • Review, update, and maintain plant Quality and Food Safety Programs, HACCP Program, Recall Program, GMP Policies, Allergen Program, current vendor Ingredient Specifications including Kosher certification letters (if applicable),
  • Prepare and maintain internal and external (i.e., customer specific) Finished Product Specifications
  • Prepare, maintain, and submit documentation as required for Nutrition Labeling Program
  • Lead in corrective action process related to quality and food safety programs, consumer concerns and facil-ity audits.
  • Review documentation and advise plant management on all compliance issues associated with food safety compliance issues such as proper record keeping for Bioterrorism Preparedness and Response Act of 2002
  • Assist with develop of training materials and training of authorized employees concerning areas that affect product safety, legality and quality.
  • Practice and comply with all Company policies and procedures (EEO, Harassment, Safety, Sarbanes Oxley, etc.)
  • Performance of other duties which are deemed by management to be an integral part of the job, including but not limited to fulfillment of work schedules, adherence to attendance policies, and other applicable op-erating rules, policies and procedures.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS/REQUIREMENTS

LICENSE-

HACCP Training Certification.

MOBILITY-

Ability to move to all areas of the plant, office and company-related facilities. Travel Expectations comprise 5 – 10% of job duties. Ability to participate in work-related
Seminars and courses as approved by manager.

SENSORY-

Ability to generate written and verbal communication as well as read and review correspondence. Ability to operate computer, including use of SAP systems. Proficiency at creating and maintaining various types of files using Microsoft Office applications included Excel, Word, Access, and PowerPoint.

COMMUNICATIONS-

Speech and hearing abilities that allow the individual to communicate clearly and distinctly in English (in person and via telephone) and/or another language if required. Ability to generate written and verbal communication as well as read and analyze correspondence.

OTHER-

  • Strong communication and analytical skills
  • Able to interact effectively at all levels
  • Ability to research, ascertain, develop, implement and monitor required policies and procedures
  • Working knowledge of current FDA CFR Title 21 regulations related to food and food manufacturing.
  • Working knowledge of food allergens
  • Basic understanding of microbiological and analytical testing applications as they pertain to ingredient specifications and product specifications

DESIRED EXPERIENCE

A minimum 1 to 3 years experience in the baking industry.

DESIRED EDUCATION

Bachelor’s degree in Food Science, Biology, Microbiology and/or Chemistry.
