Job Description

Position: We are looking for an experienced Food Safety and Quality Assurance Manager (QA Manager) with knowledge and skill in the retail manufacturing of a variety of products, including hot fill high acid and acidified fruit pouches, retorted foods, baked goods, extruded snack foods, and other growing categories in the baby and kids food product markets. This is a new position that will require the experience and know-how of building a strong department that will create and execute gold standard quality and safety programs for our food. Start date is immediate.

Key Responsibilities: This position is responsible for developing gold-standard foundational programs in finished product quality and food safety as well as strengthening product/process quality systems throughout our co-pack facilities. Individuals should be proficient in providing root cause analysis and problem solving solutions. Understanding food microbiology as it relates to food safety is an important strength that is required by this position. This position will travel 25-40%.

• Co-packer Quality and Food Safety Management: o Establish programs and guidelines for ensuring Product Quality and Food Safety across our co-pack manufacturing facilities. o Develop and/or approve food safety and regulatory compliance programs as needed (will vary with co packers), including but not limited to: Recall, HACCP, GMP’s, SSOP, and Allergen control. o Ensure co packers have gold standard quality and sanitation program systems in place, and that they adhere to the programs to assure food safety and product quality. o Implement appropriate microbiological testing protocols (using outside microbiological lab agencies) that are specific to each product and their potential safety or quality risks. o Oversee and direct facility inspections and quality audits, and use them to recommend opportunities and methods for process improvement. o Help identify new co packers for new products as they are developed o Present, implement and monitor tactical initiatives for continuous improvement. o Provide technical guidance and support to appropriate start-ups for new introductions. o Provide a critical, strong voice to the Nest team and co-pack partners to ensure that quality and safety is top of mind in all capacities. o Lead teams to systematically solve quality and safety issues.

• Quality Systems Deployment: o Develop finished product specifications/guidelines by working directly with Research and Development to ensure quality is designed and testing protocols are followed in the application process. o Develop and practice recall procedures. o Support in decreasing consumer complaints by conducting monthly trend analysis as consumer complaints are recorded. Will actively work with co-packers to identify and solve problems. o Support the growth of “consumer love” for our products as demonstrated through positive comments from consumers. o Maintain documentation of all critical materials.

• People Management: o Oversee a (currently small) internal team who will support quality and food safety efforts, collect and maintain data, and/or assist however this position sees fit. o Recommend external experts as needed to ensure gold standard support. This may include process authorities, microbiological experts, and legal experts. Influence management will be critical.

Position Requirements (knowledge areas): • B.S. in Food Science, Microbiology, or related subject. • Quality systems experience within the food industry with at least 10 years of overall work experience with demonstrated increase in responsibilities and leadership. • Manufacturing plant and production experience in various disciplines including packaging and raw materials. • Knowledge of food safety systems design and management principles. • Information systems use knowledge. Power Point, Excel, Word, Access and MS Project Manager experience. • Knowledge of quality audit and inspection principles. • Continuous Improvement expertise • Communication and Influence expertise

Salary & Benefits: Competitive and commensurate with experience ($75k -$90k). Full medical, dental, life insurance, and vacation package. Stock options with great upside potential are also included.
