The primary responsibility of this position is the development and commercialization of new and improved bakery products and processes, largely focused on yeast leavened products.  This role will actively participate in product development from ideation, prototype development through full commercialization.   It will participate as R&D Lead on cross- functional  project teams including sales, marketing, finance, technical services and operations.  As a member of the R&D team, this position will work with sales and marketing in defining external customers needs, and in developing products, in conducting  production trials and ongoing support activities for custom formulated products.
 
Principal Accountabilities:

  • Ideate concepts based on market trends and defined customer needs,  develop bench top prototypes, define processing parameters to lead to full commercialization of innovative concepts.
  • Evaluate ingredients and optimize existing formulas for quality, performance, customer requirements and profitability
  • Identify and advance cost savings and process improvement opportunities.  Execute evaluation and implementation of purchasing initiatives. 
  • Act as a technical resource to cross functional project teams including sales, marketing, regulatory, operations and quality management. Provide guidance for evaluation of new product opportunities, cost savings ideas and trouble -shooting operational problems.
  • Maintain documentation of formulations, process standards, finished product attributes and specifications.

Required:

  • B.S. or A.A. in Food Science, Culinary Arts or related field  OR 7+ years bakery experience including 3+ years product development
  • 3+ years food processing,  bakery,culinary or food based product development experience
  • Must have a valid driver's license
  • Knowledge of grains, baking technology and ingredient functionality
  • Strong organizational skills including project planning, and problem solving  skills
  • Self disciplined, self motivated, able to work independently
  • Ability to build effective relationships with internal and external customers at all levels
  • Ability to work well in a fast-paced,  team environment
  • Excellent communication skills; written and verbal including basic computer skills
  • Ability to travel occasionally
