Establishment: 7903, Perdue Farms, Inc., located in
Accomack
County. Work Schedule: Night shift, Monday-Friday, 2:00 p.m.
to
10:30 p.m. Species: Poultry, slaughter assignment.
As a Supervisory Consumer
Safety Inspector (SCSI), you will serve as
a subordinate supervisor to a
Supervisory Veterinary Medical Officer
(SVMO)in a large slaughter
plant. You will assign, direct, review,
and evaluate the work of line
Food Inspectors (FI) and off-line
Consumer Safety Inspectors
(CSI).

POSITION REQUIRING A BACKGROUND INVESTIGATION
Major Duties:
As a Supervisory Consumer
Safety Inspector you will monitor line
inspection activities, assure
appropriate breaks are provided and
that relief inspectors are
utilized as necessary.
You will provide training to
new inspectors and to all inspectors as
needed on new inspection
procedures and techniques.
In your position as a SCSI,
you will verify regulatory compliance
with the full range of
Sanitation and Standard Operating Procedures
(SSOP) and with Hazard
Analysis and Critical Control Point (HACCP)
requirements.
In addition, you will verify
corrective actions taken to deal with
product contamination and will
prepare non-compliance
documentation.
Qualifications:
For the Supervisory Consumer
Safety Inspector (SCSI) positions,
there are two basic components
of your experience that together
define the qualifications.
These components are:
Time-in-Grade and
Specialized Experience
Time-in-Grade:
In order to meet
time-in-grade, you will need to have
completed 52 weeks at the next
lower grade level within 30 days of
the closing date of this announcement.
Specialized Experience for the
Supervisory Consumer Safety Inspector
(SCSI) positions:
In order to meet the
specialized experience requirement, you will
need to have completed 52
weeks of progressively responsible
specialized experience at the
next lower grade level within 30
days after the closing date of
this announcement. Specialized
experience is experience
working with the Federal Meat, Poultry,
and Egg Products Inspection
Acts in order to inspect meat, poultry,
and egg products. This
experience also includes working with basic
SSOP and HACCP principlesand
practices in order to verify plant
HACCP and SSOP
responsibilities, performing basic mathematic and
elementary statistical
concepts and methods to perform testing and
sampling procedures, and experience in reaching and
interpreting
conclusions. Past or present supervisory
experience will enhance
your qualifications for the
vacancy.

Condition of Employment:
This position has a training
program requirement as a condition of
employment. If selected, you must successfully
complete a 2-3 week
training program at a
designated location which may require travel
outside the duty location for
an extended period. The training
you
will attend is called the Food
Safety Regulatory Essentials (FSRE).
The type of class you will
attend will be based on your assignment.
For example, if your
assignment covers raw products, you will attend
the two week course for raw
products. If your assignment
covers not
shelf stable, ready-to-eat/not
ready-to-eat products, you will
attend the three week
course. You must begin the
training within 90
days of the effective date of
your selection, and you must
successfully complete it
within 12 months of the effective
date of your selection. Failure to successfully complete the
training may result in
returning you to your former position, or
like position at the same or
lower grade (depending on availability
and the needs of the Agency)
or removal from Federal Service.
This is a non-bargaining unit
position. If you are a non-
competitive eligible you must

Multiple selections: This
