Position Description

Using many natural and organic products from healthy food suppliers such as Whole Foods, our meals are home-style, kid friendly, and made with care.  Currently Revolution Foods is in the Northern California, Southern California, Denver and Washington D.C. markets, with plans for growth into other markets in the near future.




The Director of Food Safety & Quality Assurance will lead our National Food Safety and Quality Assurance Operations.  In this newly created role the Director of Food Safety and Quality Assurance will work alongside the SVP Operations, Executive Chef and Revolution Foods market leadership teams to create and implement a USDA recognized quality assurance program.  As a member of the Revolution Foods Corporate team, this individual will serve as a key leader in this dynamic, rapidly growing business which is led by a socially minded entrepreneurial management team. Specifically the Director of Food Safety & Quality Assurance will be responsible for planning, coordinating, directing and implementing food safety systems, quality assurance procedures, food defense systems and related functions for company’s market kitchens.  He/She will be responsible for preparing and managing the Food Safety & Quality Assurance Department budget, as well as managing the cost for pest control and other USDA mandates.  They will provide assistance and oversight to the Sanitation Department as it relates to performance and cost control.  The Director of Food Safety and Quality Assurance also serves as a key resource to the new facilities development team in ensuring that the appropriate food safety controls are in place from a new facility design standpoint.  This position is based in our Corporate office in Oakland, California.





  • Managing the facility food safety programs, quality assurance and food defense systems as defined by Corporate programs and local facility needs, includes developing company crisis management plan and recall programs.
  • Managing facility food safety and quality results by planning, monitoring, and appraising job results; coaching and counseling operations teams on exemplary levels of food safety and sanitation. Schedule, assign and follow up on Quality Assurance staff’s work results.
  • Coordinates with R&D and other corporate staff to assist the development and implementation of new products, process and product improvements and cost savings initiatives. .



  • Chairs the HACCP Team and assure that root cause analysis and corrective actions, as defined by the HACCP team, are completed.
  • Provides training for QA related programs to employees, contractors and suppliers.
  • Maintains Professional and Technical knowledge by attending educational workshops, reviewing professional publications, establishing personal networks.
  • Responds to customer and consumer issues, providing input for corrective and preventive actions to the HACCP Team. 
  • Oversees food safety, especially HACCP and other food related safety programs and provides guidance on future facility layout, ideal food flow and risk management program.
  • Effectively manages the third party food safety audit program in a way that meets the needs of both the customer and corporate.
  • Provides all market operations with support in recruiting sanitation team members.
  • Represents Revolution Foods in the public arena as if relates to food safety and quality.
  • Successfully manages existing relationships and build new strategic partnerships critical to the success of the business as it relates to food safety partnerships, supplier partnerships and technology to support market operations.




The successful candidate will possess the following skills and attributes:





  • BA/BS in Food Science or related field, with a M.A./M.S. in Food Science or Environmental Health preferred.
  • 10+ years of experience in the food industry, with quality supervisory background with a minimum of 5 years of management experience in a high-volume fresh prepared food business.
  • Prior experience in the start up of HACCP and USDA in food facilities highly preferred.
  • A commitment to and passion for healthy, nutritious and safe food.
  • Entrepreneurial spirit and experience working in such environments.
  • A proven track record of  creative solutions to operational and food safety challenges with exceptional performance as it relates to the 3rd party audits.
  • A solid leader who has effectively hired and managed a team that has led to successful outcomes, strong systems and processes.
  • Demonstrated creativity, resourcefulness, and good judgment in past roles.
  • Demonstrated ability to take initiative with little direction and ability to learn  quickly, while developing and implementing policies and procedures at a aggressive pace.
  • Prior experience in logistics and distribution is preferred in multi-cooked protein environment.
  • A self directed individual with outstanding organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines effectively.
  • Outstanding written and oral communication skills, especially the interpersonal skills needed to effectively interact at all levels of the organization whether it be the kitchen crew or senior management. 
  • Possess the flexibility, sense of humor, and a willingness to jump into any role at a moment’s notice that is needed in a fast past and evolving organization. 
  • A true team player who has the communication skills needed to work well in cross-functional situations.
  • The ability to travel within state and out of state on a limited basis as needed. 
  • The ability to interact effectively with individual customers, brokers, ingredient suppliers, equipment manufacturers, auditors, operations, maintenance, and warehouse employees.




Within their first twelve to eighteen months, the Director of Food Safety and Quality Assurance will have accomplished the following:


·         Demonstrated a solution driven approach to food safety and quality assurance having implemented realistic and effective processes into place.


·         Effectively managed the relationship with the USDA, while having instilled the level of knowledge and processes needed in each of the markets so to ensure they are compliant.  Built solid working relationships with the General Managers, Directors of Operations and the Heads of Sanitation in each of the markets that are needed to impact change and to reach quality goals.


·         Developed, implemented and successfully completed quality assurance audits.


·         Successfully rolled out USDA compliant programs in a minimum of two markets. 


·         Developed scalable solutions that meet both the needs of Revolution Foods today and for future growth with 70%-80% of the plan transferable from market to market.
