Job Description


KEY RESULT AREAS: Insure that the proper standards of sanitation are maintained and all products are produced with consumer safety in mind.

PRINCIPLE DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

HACCP Program
Maintain HACCP program at plant. Perform HACCP verification and validation activities. Perform HACCP Hazard Analysis on any new ingredients or processes.

GMP Program
Inspect the plant on a routine schedule. Monitor deficiencies and track corrective actions from the routine plant inspections. Lead Food safety team with GMP and Food Safety focused projects. Inspect Distribution Centers quarterly.

Nonconforming Program
Coordinate nonconforming product issues including identification, segregation, disposition, tracking, and corrective action of non-conforming product.

Sanitation Program
Establish and maintain detailed written procedures for the cleaning of all processing equipment and facilities. Perform verification and validation activities on the program.

Allergen Program
Coordinate elements of the allergen control program including ingredient labeling, segregation, storage, cleanup process, verification of cleanups, and validation of cleanups

Micro biological Program
Coordinate, track, verify, and validate environmental program at plant.

Integrated Pest Management- Internal
Maintain rodent trapping program at the plant. Maintain Insecticutor program at the plant. Identify bird, rodent, or insect pest issues and develop plans for exclusion or elimination of the source of problems. Lead Heat Sterilization process for insect control.

Integrated Pest Management- External
Supervise external vendor for bird control, rodent control, pest control, and weed control programs. Plant coordination on fumigations.

Monthly Verification Activities
Provide monthly management reports on Food Safety Prerequisite programs and HACCP program

Special Projects
Represent Technical Services Department as needed in special projects, supplier programs, process improvement projects. Support AIB and SQF program.

Training
Train employees in required food safety and/or quality related topics.

External Audits
Assist with Regulatory audits, 3rd Party inspections, Ralston Foods audits, customer inspections when necessary.

Consumer Complaints
Respond promptly, effectively and accurately to consumer complaints

Certifications
Must possess and maintain industry knowledge for HACCP certification and SQF Practitioner certification

Job Qualifications

Education:

  • BS Degree in Food Science, Microbiology, Biology, Chemistry, Entomology, or related area required with experience in the Food Industry preferred.


Experience:

  • Three to Five years in food processing with quality, sanitation, or pest control experience preferred.


OTHER QUALIFICATIONS TO CONSIDER:

  • Candidate must possess strong interpersonal skills along with verbal and written communications.
  • Strong teamwork, influence management, and project management skills.
  • Required to work some off hours and weekends to accomplish certain duties and responsibilities.
  • Experience in a Lean environment.


SPECIALIZED KNOWLEDGE:

  • Safe Quality Foods (SQF) Program with the ability to achieve SQF Practitioner status.
  • HACCP Training
  • GMPs for the Food Industry
  • Pest Control in Food Industry
