Our National Security Division is currently seeking a Food Engineering Research Scientist. This position is located in Columbus, OH.

Primary job responsibilities will include:

• Assessment of food distribution data to support development of stock and flow models to study foodborne contamination spread.
• Assessment of literature and case study analyses related to foodborne contamination.
• Develop mathematical models to assess and evaluate mitigation strategies for reducing food process vulnerabilities.
• Participation in data reduction, data review, and data compilation.
• Generating clear, concise inputs to technical reports and technical briefings that summarize study plans, procedures and results.
• Manage project performance with respect to budget, schedule, and technical defensibility.


Additionally, the selected candidate will be expected to assist in generating program deliverables, including data analyses, briefing materials, and technical reports. A moderate amount of domestic travel is anticipated.

THE FOLLOWING REQUIREMENTS MUST BE MET TO BE CONSIDERED FOR THIS POSITION:

Education: Bachelor’s (or advanced) Degree in chemical engineering, agricultural engineering, food engineering, or food science-related disciplines.
Experience: At least 2 years of experience with any combination of the following: food processing methods, hazard vulnerability and critical control point methodology, foodborne pathogens, toxic and hazardous materials, or basic microbiology. Graduate research in these areas would be considered as experience.
Skills: Strong mathematical and modeling skills; reasonable understanding of food industries and food safety procedures; capacity to learn new approaches/techniques;
Citizenship: Sole U.S. citizenship, with the ability to obtain and maintain required government security clearances as a condition of employment
Security Clearance: Not required prior to hire


THE FOLLOWING IS DESIRED, BUT NOT REQUIRED TO BE CONSIDERED FOR THIS POSITION:

Computer programming experience using C++ or other scientific programming language; mathematics and statistical analysis experience, experience with microbiology (aseptic technique, material handling, precautions, and contamination control), food processing related modeling, and strong PC-based computer skills (Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel, Microsoft Access, Microsoft PowerPoint, Windows operating system, and computer programming).
