Job Description

Effectively design overall nutritional formula and manufacturing processes for the products that are ready for commercial scale up in Abbott R&D and Third Party Plants. Translate all the functional requirements from multi functional disciplines for global Technical Centers for executable and repeatable commercial production. These will require dialing in all the requirements in coordination with Project Management, Technical Centers and all the functions. Conduct and lead Design-to-Value (DTV) activity based product design for pediatric and medical nutrition products with multi disciplinary subject matter experts. Facilitates more efficient product design by working closely with key stakeholders to achieve project goals and assure long term gross margin improvement.
Translates strategic needs of Abbott Nutrition into executable technical programs and products. By clearing all technical hurdles upfront to manufacturing, prevent redundancies and development repeats in Technical Centers.

Organize and lead final stage product design and scopes.
Translates multidisciplinary inputs into technical product definition and design. Coordinate multifunctional input, communicate and make decisions for the product creation through an executable program or project.
Assure comprehensive and well planned scopes to improve scale up efficiency and speed to market.

Support the project manager and team and drive technical interactions with other disciplines (i.e. regulatory, quality, engineering, commercial, supply chain) and seek timely solutions to achieve technical deliverables.

Plan, manage and lead final stage product development programs and technical scopes involving multiple manufacturing sites (AN and/or TPM).

In alignment with the Project Manager and other functional leads, defines technical scope of projects; establishing, maintaining and updating. Documents scope change control.

Technical role model and consultant on technical issues. Apply advanced technology knowledge to multidisciplinary projects. Assure and support quality through sound development design of experiments. Lead and support product development efforts through support of pilot plant and plant scale-ups. Review experimental results and data. Familiar with plant and lab environments and safety practices.

Create “out-of-the-box” technical innovative solutions to scale up and manufacture new products.

Assume responsibility as Technical Center representative.

Work independently to meet goals and divisional objectives.

Skills/Experience Requirements

Basic Qualifications:
Minimum of 10 years experience in nutritional or fortified food development and/or manufacturing.

• High level of expertise in hands on nutrition product development, processing and manufacturing related to pediatric and medical nutritional products
• Experience in transfer of bench top or pilot plant to industrial scale-ups
• Hands-on experience in using technical development tools for pediatric and medical nutrition formulas and cost estimates.
• Demonstrated ability for multi disciplinary integration and execution of nutritional and applied formulations
• Strong knowledge of pediatric and medical nutritional products, formulations, ingredients, packages, process requirements for pilot plant and commercial manufacturing
• Proven ability to identify and resolve technical challenges quickly and effectively to stakeholders
• Demonstrated ability to address and resolve key technical hurdles and assumptions by effectively utilizing available information, resources and technical expertise
• Good understanding of regulatory requirements (i.e. Codex, FDA, FSMP) to develop project technical strategy and effectively develop products to meet the required regions
• Able to communicate and negotiate effectively with all functions and management across the division
• Be comfortable and adept interacting with senior management
• Good negotiation and conflict resolution skills
• Demonstrated risk analysis and judgment, identifying simple applicable designs from complex information
• Ability to self start and work with minimal supervision

Education Requirements

Bachelor’s degree, or equivalent, in Food Science, Nutrition, Chemistry or Biology or related field.
