Lockheed Martin Information Systems & Global Solutions (IS&GS) – Civil provides support to a wide array of information technology systems, services and data solutions for areas such as energy, healthcare, transportation, security and space exploration just to name a few.

IS&GS-Civil currently has a Food Scientist opening that will support the Bioastronautics program in its Houston, TX location.

The position will be with the Wyle Bioastronautics Contract supporting NASA’s Johnson Space Center (JSC) in Houston.

**** The position is assigned to the Space Food Systems Laboratory at JSC but will be based in College Station, TX and will entail travel to JSC in Houston approximately one week per month.

The successful candidate will be responsible for operating and managing the Space Food Research Facility at Texas A&M University, producing the majority of thermally processed pouched food products used to feed the astronauts aboard the International Space Station. Other tasks include supporting provisioning activities, as well as research and product development related to space flight food systems. Activities include, but are not limited to, coordination and production of thermostabilized pouched food products, maintenance of equipment required to support food production at the Space Food Research Facility, product development, as well as preparation and review of technical reports, presentations, and charts.

Essential duties include:

• Supporting flight food provisioning tasks, including coordination and production of thermostabilized pouched food products and quality assessment of food products and hardware

• Maintaining the product files and equipment located at the Space Food Research Facility in College Station, TX

• Conducting safety training and facility inspections, as required

• Supporting process improvement activities and NASA Public Affairs Office events, as requested

• BS degree in Food Science or commensurate experience in a commercial food production setting

• Previous demonstrated experience thermally processing food products

• Better Process Control School certification

• Proficiency with Microsoft Office Word/Excel/PowerPoint

• Good oral and excellent written communication skills

• Must be able to travel from the home base in College Station, TX to Johnson Space Center (JSC) 1 week per month (i.e. a full 40 hours at JSC once per month).

• Risk-based HACCP certification
