National Starch has an excellent opportunity for a Senior Food Scientist in its System Design and Measurement team within its Customer Solutions and Product Innovation department located at our corporate headquarters in Bridgewater, NJ.

Position Overview:

The Senior Food Scientist will provide technical and project leadership in developing new ingredient systems through leading and participating in cross functional teams to drive projects and products from concept to commercialization.  The Senior Food Scientist will utilize fundamental food, material and polymer science principles to develop ingredients/systems with improved, new and/or unique functionality that will enhance our differentiated portfolio of ingredients.  You will support various customer engagements and new product development projects through in depth understanding of starch, hydrocolloid and other functional ingredients knowledge enriched with knowledge physical properties of food products.

 

Additional responsibilities and activities include:

·        Driving a range of Applied Research and New Product Development projects, support customer projects by providing instrumental characterization as well as taking a lead role in the ongoing development of mechanical testing excellence.

·        Provide technical support and thought leadership in various projects based on in depth knowledge of rheology, mechanical testing and texture characterization

·        Collaborate with colleagues from Research, Development, Marketing, Technical Services and other groups to support new business opportunities.

·        Interface externally with relevant trade associations and universities.

 

Requirements

Requirements:

·        PhD in food polymer or material science, or related field with 2 or more years of relevant experience or a Masters degree with 5+ years of experience.    

·        Knowledge of biopolymers such as hydrocolloids and starch.

·        Knowledge of Rheology and Rheological measurements.

·        Expertise in statistical design and analysis tools.

·        Rheology and other physical property measurement techniques are desired.

·        Project and people management skills. 

·        Supervisory experience or desire to manage others desired.

·        Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

·        Flexible and can rapidly adapt to changing priorities.

·        Self starter with proven ability to work independently.

·        Up to 10% travel will be required.
