Job Summary
The Food Scientist reports to the Executive Vice President of Sales, Marketing, and Global Supply Chain Development. This exempt, salaried position requires a hands-on individual with the ability to develop innovative food products and adapt them for production line execution. Clear Springs provides fresh and frozen food products to customers nationally. Clear Springs is a fully vertically integrated company that controls all aspects of its food business from inception to market.

Essential Functions

  • Responsible for Product Development
  • Manage Product Development strategies and objectives.
  • Work with senior management staff to develop strategies for short term and long range product line growth.
  • Develop, discuss and promote new product ideas.
  • Develop both new products for Clear Springs brands, as well as customer brands:
  • Work with customers to develop and refine products to their specifications.
  • Develop presentations to customers as needed.
  • Travel with other Clear Springs staff to customer meetings/events; industry events as needed to demonstrate Clear Springs products to targeted audience.
  • Provide ideas and information with regard to market trends in the food industry.
  • Be actively involved in providing information to sales, marketing and operations with regard to culinary trends.
  • Perform other duties as assigned or needed.
  • Maintain department files and correspondence.
  • Communication/Customer Contact


  • Participate in discussion about confidential/sensitive matters.
  • Communicate with other employees and departments through written and oral interactions.
  • Develop and maintain customer and supplier contacts.
  • Communicate with all members of the Sales and Marketing group as needed.
  • Provide regular reports to Executive Vice President of Sales, Marketing, and Global Supply Chain Development.
  • Work in cooperation with all members of the Operations and Quality Assurance groups as needed.

Technical Requirements

  • Develop and Maintain Nutritional Specifications for Products.
  • Perform other duties as assigned or needed.
  • Involvement in industry/culinary associations such as RCA and ACF.


  • Requires a Bachelorís Degree in food science.
  • Requires culinary experience and interest in food.
  • Requires previous management experience.
  • Manage multiple projects concurrently.
  • Requires two to five years of food science/culinary work experience.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as rate, ratio, and percent; and to draw and interpret bar graphs.
  • Ability to apply common sense to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral or diagram form.
  • Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.
  • Required to have advanced knowledge of computer programs such as Word, Excel, and Power Point.
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
  • Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of the organization.
  • Independent decision making skills are necessary.
  • Ability to pass drug test.
