This international client's continued design innovation provides packaging solutions for their customer and the consumer.

1.0 PURPOSE

The position of Food Scientist will conduct microbiological and chemical tests on packaging equipment and materials, and develop written procedures for same. Maintain laboratory according to ISO 9001-2000 standards. Provide assistance to Field Service, Marketing, Company Market Units, and customers in the area of product quality, equipment hygienic problems, and laboratory services.

2.0 ACTIVITIES/FUNCTION

2.1 Operates and maintains research microbiology, food science laboratories and

process plant according to Company, ISO procedures. Establish and implement and QA program for laboratories and process plant. All documentation is to be written and logged according to ISO requirements.

2.2 Performs microbiological, physical and chemical evaluation of carton components,

materials and parts to assist Design & Production Engineering, and Service

Departments.

2.3 Researches and recommends newly established research protocols for

microbiological, chemical, and food science evaluations of products, packages, and

equipment.

2.4 Assist with establishment of product test plans for commissioning and test of g

machines. Works in cooperation with customer during commissioning; providing

training on test methods and established SOP's for hygienic operation.

2.5 Provides assistance to Field service, Marketing, and customers dealing with

product quality, package and equipment hygienic problems. Conducts plant field

audit as a method of identifying critical control points for troubleshooting purposes.

2.6 Test all systems having hygienic significance on Company equipment, using established procedures, before shipment to customer. Work closely with production personnel to verify these systems and provide training when necessary.

2.7 Select and order materials to maintain adequate inventory for laboratory and field use, and stays within allotted budget. Maintains all purchase order records. Develop an inventory program for laboratory and FST related supplies for process plant.

2.8 Maintain Standards Library for Research and Engineering. Keep updated index of standards and orders new Standards when needed or requested.

2.9 Work closely with European department through report and test method exchange & consulting and training on machine hygiene issues. Update FST

e- room for report exchange and information sharing. .

2.10 Maintain and record accurate records and research data generated by the FST department. Ability to write detailed accurate reports for production and development projects.

2.11 Learn to operate Process plant and CIP plant. Assist with establishing and maintaining GMP's in process plant.

3.0 RELATIONSHIP

Assists with the planning, implementation of machine testing, coordinating resources, supplies, and equipment. This position acts as a liaison with various Company departments regarding hygienic and aseptic programs and needs to work closely with the Food Science and Technology Manager and R&E personnel. Must retain good customer and interdepartmental relationships through cooperation and positive attitude.

5.0 INTERDEPENDENCE

Ensures the maintenance of all appropriate documentation for ISO certification of laboratory. Maintains methods documentation, reports, and supporting documents and technical information for successful testing of machines and packaging materials. Supports Company a.s. Food Technology Department with laboratory assistance and technical training, and customers for machine commissioning and troubleshooting.

6.0 KNOWLEDGE

B.S. in Food Science or related scientific discipline.
