Develop and lead the Midwest and Canada Microbiology department
strategies and programs to supply technical expertise and support as
well as timely analytical data and interpretation across the Business
Units located in the Midwest (C&D, Grocery, OM, KFI & Food
Service, and Canada). Partner with R & D, Operations and
Procurement to ensure appropriate product design and commercialization.
Participate on WW HACCP team to provide world class food safety
policies to the organization. Establish and maintain key contacts with
relevant external organizations and experts to ensure rapid data
assimilation and Kraft representation. Manage a department with
individuals in various locations to ensure a highly skilled and
motivated group of experts. Manage the operating and capital
expenditures budgets. Provide clear direction and communication of
issues and technical expertise on issues concerning food safety.
Responsibilities include: 1. Product Design and Commercialization
Lead delivery of focused technical support necessary to progress
R&D projects. Support the organization in new product/equipment
development and launches prior to and post commercialization, including
troubleshooting as issues arise. Initiate and maintain effective
exchange with counterparts (NA Micro, Analytical Chem)
to identify improvement opportunities. 2. Strategy, Compliance, Policy
Develop and lead the Midwest Microbiology department strategies and
programs. Proactively assess available data and expert information to
foresee and quickly react to potential issues and emerging issues.
Design and execute studies as necessary to identify clear
recommendations on food safety and quality standards. Ensure key
technical input to the development, implementation and measure of our
food safety and quality standards and programs. Identify, develop and
implement science based, worldclass
microbiology policies, systems, programs and analytical services,
relevant to WW R&D and Operations strategies. Lead policy
development related to microbiological laboratories (internal and
external), the design requirements of safe and microbiologically stable
products (HACCP), environmental monitoring programs. 3. Value Chain
Programs Lead microbiology laboratories in delivering technical
support to R&D and Operations, by providing analytical services,
method development, expertise, result interpretation, and
implementation of the latest business relevant analytical technology
and methodology. Ensure reliability of pathogen laboratory results
through audits/assessments, and proficiency tests. Deliver expert
business impact assessments and recommendations and ensure key
technical input to issue, specification and emerging issue management.
4. External Reporting and Liaison Ensure proactive interaction with
key relevant bodies, experts, conferences in order to establish and
maintain contacts for rapid data assimilation and to direct research
programs to best reflect the needs of Kraft including
participation/representation in expert panels, technical forums,
scientific societies, institutes, universities. Leverage company
position with advisory, regulatory, governmental and scientific bodies
through recognized expertise. 5. Supplier Safety Responsible for
administering the supplier safety program for the Region. 6. Leadership
and Department Management Develop and broaden the technical skills,
company business/products knowledge as well as awareness of pertinent
external developments of team members by appropriate training,
developmental assignments, external networking and training and
coaching. Responsible operating and capital expenditure budget for
department. Responsible for overall safety and diversity awareness
and compliance.
