Cargill Corn Milling North America is a manufacturer of value-added corn, sugar and health based products serving the Food, Feed and Fermentation segments. From facilities in Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Nebraska, North Dakota, Ohio, Tennessee and Texas, we provide a wide variety of products and services including high fructose corn syrup, corn syrups, dextrose syrups and sucrose that are used in an array of beverage, brewing, confectionery, food and pharmaceutical applications. We provide health and sweetness promoting ingredients for the food and dietary supplement industries worldwide. Position Overview:

Food Segment Research and Development (R&D) Lead provides technical leadership for the Corn Milling Food Segment portfolio, including developing technology solutions, providing business and customer partnership, food portfolio management and project budgets. The role needs to leverage Cargillís Core technologies and Enabling Sciences to deliver new solutions for food product lines. Active member of Corn Millingís Technology Innovation Leadership Team which develops the technology strategy that is aligned with the business strategies and goals.

Principal Accountabilities:

40% Business/Customer Relationship and value creation optimization: Accountable for the coordination and execution of the food segment innovation projects ensuring: technical risks are understood, good scientific principals are applied, technical plans are developed, proper resources are assigned and the technical team effectively delivers against the goals. This requires providing team building leadership, particularly with virtual teams that consist of commercial, operations, quality, and R&D personnel.

30% Identify focus of research projects for Food Segment: Develop new customer driven food ingredients, formulations and/or processes that create sustainable advantage in the market place. Leverage insights of Cargill business groups and external groups on the latest technologies and food ingredient trends to drive new products and solutions innovation.

10% Provide technical leadership to the food product lines through participation in strategic discussions, budget planning sessions and project and portfolio reviews.

10% Create and manage Intellectual Property (IP) for food product lines: ensure development of new IP and understand and monitor competitive threats.

10% Drive technical excellence, effective technical project management and execution and technical talent development in Corn Milling through participation in the Technology Innovation Leadership Team.



         Masterís Degree in chemistry, food science/technology, biotechnology or related scientific or engineering fields

         10+ years R&D experience across multiple projects

         5+ years team/project management in food industry

         Good communication skills (verbal and written) Effectively communicates technical details with technical and non-technical people

         Proven team building leadership, particularly with teams in multiple locations, which involved getting team members on board and collaborating effectively

         Demonstrated experience in project management (including organization, prioritization and execution skills)

         Strong collaboration skills

         Demonstrated ability to engage with customers to identify their unmet needs and opportunities

         Demonstrated creative and innovative thinking

         Demonstrated strong influencing skills

         Successful commercialization of new food products including regulatory issues and filings

         Proven problem solving abilities.

         Up to 25% travel


         PhD chemistry, food science/technology, biotechnology or related scientific or engineering field

         Experience working with external technology providers
