Job Description:

SUMMARY

The incumbent is responsible for all food safety related initiatives to ensure adherence to laws and regulations that govern the health and safety of consumers. Conduct onsite visits at food/feed accounts for inspections and/or audits.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES and RESPONSIBILITIES

1. Update and maintain all food safety related documents, such as standard operating procedures, training materials and HACCP plans, for each food/feed account.

2. Create materials to inform drivers of the importance and relevance of food safety.
3. Educate drivers on their personal role in keeping the food they transport safe and provide them with food safety reference materials to refer to while on the road.
4. Initiate food safety roll outs at each specific food/feed account and conduct onsite audits.
5. Research and incorporate new legislation related to transportation and distribution of food products into all documents and safety plans.

6. Ensure management receives ServSafe certification and are capable of passing this knowledge on to their drivers.

7. Act as consultant to various departments.

QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

Bachelor's degree (B.A.) or equivalent from four-year college or university; four years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience and two years management experience.

MINIMUM KNOWLEDGE and ABILITIES

Ability to research data and know where to obtain data. Ability to deal effectively and tactfully with customers and vendors. Ability to make decisions in a timely and professional manner, plus have analytical ability, initiative and problems solving ability.

LANGUAGE SKILLS

Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers and the general public.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS

Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference and volume. Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.

REASONING ABILITY

Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.

HACCP certification

INTERNAL COMMUNICATION

All levels of management within DCS, Safety and Operations.

EXTERNAL COMMUNICATION

Various local and state governmental agencies.

USE OF COMPUTERS, SOFTWARE and EQUIPMENT

Must have the ability to operate general office equipment and computers. Must be proficient in the use of various software programs.
