Distribution Food Safety Manager

The distribution sanitarian will work with operations staff to ensure that all company policies and procedures meet local, state, and federal regulations and standards as it relates to product distribution. This position will be responsible for all related functions within all warehouse groups.

Essential Functions of the Job:

    • Responsible for compliance with all local, state and federal regulations. Adhere to and administer company policies and procedures.
    • Develops and implements all sanitation related training for sanitation and operations employees as needed.
    • Sets the direction for ongoing sanitation verification activities and validation testing.
    • Ensures all safety requirements related to sanitation are met including proper chemical storage, MSDA PPEs and procedures.
    • Assist in the development and implementation of standards, policies and procedures related to sanitation and pest control in Food Distribution.
    • Enhance and support SOP/HACCP training materials/programs to ensure structure, consistency and alignment with enterprise objectives.
    • Regularly perform verification audits to ensure the programs are working effectively.
    • Develop, implement, and administer Distribution Center food safety, sanitation, weights and measures and pricing accuracy policies and SOPs across all divisions.
    • Advise company management on regulatory compliance pertaining to food safety, facility sanitation, weights and measures and pricing accuracy.
    • Act as the champion for food safety and quality; motivating, educating and training cross-functional personnel.
    • Leads the design and implementation of superior sanitation standards and programs. Assures operations compliance to all sanitation standards and programs.
    • Maintain current knowledge of trends and changes affecting food safety, as well as develop and recommend appropriate program changes to ensure governmental compliance.
    • Assigns and monitors site wide sanitation areas of responsibility for all shifts.
    • Maintains and updates master cleaning schedule for site meeting corporate guidelines.
    • Collect data in a scientific manner utilizing appropriate statistical methodologies, perform accurate measurements and calculations and interpret results. Develop executive summary reports with recommendation for continuous improvement.
    • Review audit reports generated by third party service provider. Identify, review and resolve any auditing issues. Participate and present information to standardize (peer review) third party auditors.
    • Integrate new products / processes into the HACCP plans.
    • Maintain controls for sanitation chemicals including cost, utilization, testing, inventories, and proper labeling of containers.
    • Other duties as assigned.


Required:

    • Bachelor Degree in Food Science or Food Technology, or closely related field
    • Registered Sanitarian or CFSP/CPFS certification
    • 2-5 years of plant or operations quality / food safety / sanitation experience
    • Knowledge of HACCP and sanitation principles
    • 2+ years supervisory experience
    • Thorough knowledge and understanding of cleaning and sanitation procedures for Food Distribution Centers
    • Thorough understanding of knowledge of public health (food safety law and regulations), codes, and regulations
    • Demonstrated time management and prioritization skills
    • Strong analytical and technical writing skills
    • Effective written and oral communication
    • Ability to engage all levels of employees and ability to work effectively with a team
    • Ability to motivate, lead and influence various levels of the organization
    • Ability to assimilate new information quickly and react positively to new and challenging opportunities
    • Energetic, self-motivated and the ability to manage multiple projects and work with multifunctional teams


Preferred:

    • Bilingual - English and Spanish
    • Master level degree
    • Prior work experiences with meat, seafood, poultry, produce, deli and food service
