Beverage Flavor Applications Scientist – Decatur, IL

This is a full time, exempt position
The research group of Archer Daniels Midland Co. is
actively seeking an individual with the following qualifications. This
position will work across all of ADM’s business units and product lines to
support the development and applications of various ADM ingredients,
particularly vegetable proteins, in beverages. This position will also serve
as the in-house technical expert for flavors in beverages across all
categories.
Position:
Create beverage prototypes to
achieve specific flavor and nutrition targets
Develop and maintain close
working relationships with flavor suppliers
Assist customers in the
formulation of beverage and nutritional applications. Provide customers
with training in the use of ADM ingredients through presentations and
bench/pilot experimentation. Attend customer plant trials and provide
troubleshooting assistance when required.
Active laboratory and pilot
plant experimentation
Provide feedback on
performance and functionality to ingredient development chemists to
improve existing or to create new market-relevant ingredients
Work closely with sensory
science department to generate data needed for marketing purposes and
to optimize flavor and texture profiles
Qualifications/Experience:
B.S. or M.S. Degree in Food
Science or related field of study
5-10 years of experience in
the use of flavors and juices in beverages and/or nutritional products
Detailed understanding of
flavor systems, flavor maskers and flavor interactions with sweeteners
and acidulants
Knowledge of texture modifying
ingredients such as proteins and hydrocolloids in the formulation of
beverages
Must be able to work
independently on research projects related to the application of
vegetable-based protein ingredients, particularly soy proteins in the
above mentioned application areas
Must possess good
interpersonal skills and the ability to work and relate directly to
individuals from the areas of marketing, sales and production
Must be self-motivated and be
willing to work with their hands
Must be a team player and have
good written and verbal communication skills.
The position would require approximately 25% travel and
will be based in Decatur, IL.
