Job Description PRIMARY FUNCTION:
This position is responsible for managing vendor-based development of
Target’s Owned Brands products, Archer Farms and Market Pantry.
Responsibilities include creating guest focused on trend items in prototype
form, assisting with and conducting organoleptic evaluations, product
performance and quality attribute assessments, scheduling and leading
product team evaluations, providing objective feedback to the teams,
documenting product evaluations, conclusions and next steps, and providing
technical guidance to vendors. Work includes the entire product life cycle,
from new products to ongoing product improvements and maintenance.
PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Develops/Create concepts and recipes that replicate items identified in
conjunction with business strategy.
Researches food trends and industry information through publication, trend
shows, restaurants, and vendor partnerships.
Evaluates products and packaging submitted by vendors against national
brands, product benchmarks or Target prototypes or requirements.
Conducts product sensory evaluations and product performance evaluations.
Ensures products to be commercialized are consistent with Target brand
strategies.
Participates in and/or leads Private Label Team product evaluations,
facilitate decision making and identification of next steps.
Works directly with vendors to request product samples, inform them of
specific Target requirements, obtain technical information, provide technical
direction and guidance, and resolve issues.
Documents and summarizes all product sensory and performance evaluations as
well as Private Label Development Team evaluations and decisions.
Contributes to the development, review and approval of the product
specification.
Conducts first production run evaluations of all new products for
compliance to specification and overall approval.
Assists with product improvements and the on-going maintenance of
commercialized products.

This position reports to the Manager, Food Product Development.
JOB REQUIREMENTS
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
B.S. in Food Science
Culinary degree or equivalent experience
3 – 10 years test kitchen or product development experience working with
consumer packaged foods and/or foodservice industry
Creative culinary skills and a passion for working with food.
Experience in cross functional execution
Sensory evaluation experience and skills
Strong Prioritization / Organizational / Documentation skills
Sense of urgency
Communicates Effectively

Maximizes Relationships
Flexible working structure
Microsoft Office Knowledge (Word and Excel)

M.S. in Food Science
Chain restaurant experience
