The position supports the marketing/R&D initiatives through product and process development. The successful candidate will have strong baked goods formulation ability, can operate independently, and work well with various cross-functional teams in the organization. A successful candidate must have strong project management skills, and maintain data recording keeping throughout the process. The position will require an individual that is highly organized and can maintain a high level of professionalism, tact and confidentiality with proprietary information. Passion for Wonder® and Hostess® brands is a plus.


            Will report to the Director of Cake Innovation, and work with other more experienced Technologists.


            Optimize products for quality and tolerance.

            Document and maintain records of lab work.


            Organize product reviews, summarize, document and communicate outcome.


            Assist in organizing plant testing.


            Perform changes to formulas and operations on bench, pilot and plant operations levels as directed and required to meet new objectives, and evaluates variable relationships in qualitative and quantitative terms.


            Team with other departments (Marketing, Operations, Finance, etc.) to provide technical assistance and support of New Product/Project Team.


            Provide written and oral reports to higher management levels regarding both tactical plans and achievements.


            Occasionally interact with plant operations personnel in the set up and performance of plant trials to mimic pilot conditions &/or validate results via repetitive performances.


            Independently provide performance of physical measurements on products using standard tools and devices, per training program. Evaluate and procure new measurement and evaluation tools as required to achieve optimized results.


            Interact with vendors and suppliers procuring and/or developing new ingredients in support of innovation development.

  • Bachelor's degree in Food Science is required, and a Master's degree is preferred.  


  • Must have 2 or more years in food industry bakery and/or R&D environment.  


  Must have general knowledge of ingredients and their function.


  Knowledge of bakery manufacturing systems and processes is preferred.


  • Excellent data collection and dissemination skills required.  


  • Must be very detail orientated with attention to detail and accuracy.  


  • Must be proficient in Microsoft Office products, SAP, Genesis, and CSIMS preferred.  


  • Must work well with the operations cross-functional team.  


  • Must have strong organizational and time management skills.  


  • Must be a self-starter that needs little to no direction once the objectives have been established.  


  • Must have excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
