Job Title: Food Technologist-Spec Development - Santa Rosa, CA


Department: Technical Services

Reports To: Senior Food Scientist- Spec Development


The Food Technologist works in the Technical Service Department assisting with range of tasks related to raw material and WIP specification development and maintenance. This position supports efforts that involve providing technically based information, support, documents and opinions to all departments within the company, particularly Sourcing, Quality Assurance and Production, at all locations. Due to the nature of the work, this individual will be required to travel between plant locations in Santa Rosa as well as travel to other Amy’s and supplier locations.


·   Oversee the supplier approval processes and documents, support and work with Sourcing to maintain and improve the approved supplier program.

·   Develop raw material specifications while working with a variety of Amy’s employees & departments as well as and suppliers. He/ she will gather and analyze data to identify key quality attributes, determine appropriate measurement guidelines/ tests for drafting Amy’s specifications and working with Tech Service, QA and Sourcing to finalize and present to suppliers. In addition this position supports the Raw Material team in communicating with suppliers or Sourcing to address and resolve a variety of issues/ concerns.

·   Create or update WIP specifications by reviewing data to determine acceptable ranges, work with kitchen sensory group and over see approval of sauce & mix changes form and update table

·   Provide Technical/ Specification support to raw material groups at various locations within the Amy’s organization.

·   Maintain specification status database (specifications completed, versions, suppliers who have signed, CoA requirements, etc.) Audit and update Spec Tracker & maintain updates in Oracle as needed.

·   Other activities will be project orientated and include a wide range of responsibilities and requirements.


This position does not directly supervise other Amy’s employees.

·   B.S. in Food Science, Food Technology, Nutrition or the equivalent

·   Excellent interpersonal and assertiveness skills, necessary to maintain effective and cordial working relationships while, at the same time, come to resolution/agreement on Amy's requirements

·   Excellent communication skills; ability to relate to all internal levels as well as interface with suppliers on a technical level.

·   Must be flexible, creative, and extremely attentive to detail. He/she must excel in completing investigations, and drawing conclusions from data.

·   Computer literate; must have experience using Word and Excel

·   Reliable/dependable

·   Valid US Driver’s License.
